Candlelight Vigil @ 2030 Liliano Drive: Wednesday December 21 7:00 p.m.

At the suggestion of one of the posters to this blog yesterday, myself and others have decided to go forward and organize a candlelight vigil at Robert Matheson's Sierra Madre home. The purpose of this is to pay respects to the victims of the child pornography activities in which Mr. Matheson participated.

At this time of year, and in our horror over the revelations that an apparently very active pedophile has been working out of our community, I fear that many may lose sight of those against whom this kind of predation has been committed. We must also keep in mind that just because one man has been identified as engaging in these activities here, he might not have been working alone. We don't know.

It is troubling that there have been multiple incidents of this nature in the news lately. Penn State comes to mind as the most prominent, but there are others as well. I think this vigil will be a very constructive thing, and one that our entire community can participate in to show their concern over what has been revealed these last few days. By gathering quietly, and in the most respectful of ways, we will be able to show our caring for those who are the true victims of these heinous crimes. The children.

Matheson will pay dearly for his horrible activities, of this I have no doubt. But the boys whose pictures and videos Mr. Matheson was carrying in his computer that fateful day have paid a far higher price. Our prayers can hopefully bring some peace to their lives as well. This is something that we must do.

The Sierra Madre Police Department has been notified, and we have been informed that no permit will be necessary. We will be notifying Matheson's neighbors as well. Hopefully they will want to join with us in this hour long act of respect for the victims.

Hope to see many of you there as well. I can think of nothing that anyone can do that will be more in the spirit of Christmas and the holiday season.

Bring a candle.

  1. I can't think of anything more positive than a silent, peaceful gathering.

  2. A candle is no problem. I'd like to take a bulldozer up there, you know that's what they use to clear the land to get it ready for new development.

  3. Couldn't stand to be there,,,,December 18, 2011 at 5:15 AM

I was molested at age 12 and my parents didn't believe me, that hurt the worst. How anyone can defend scum like Matheson is hard to understand. Don't know if I can stomach this whole thing, especially him living in the same town, don't want my kid running into him.

  4. Matheson's house should be leveled and a monument to the victims of child pornography put in its place.

Also, go to your nearest Catholic church today and demand the Pope step down in disgrace over his complicity in the child raping that went on under his Bishopness or Cardinalness..a child rapist is a child rapist is a child rapist no matter what organization you belong to..burn in hell Matheson!

  6. I'll be there. I will bring a candle and a prayer for all children who are victims of these crimes and all crimes of child abuse.
Our society is too complacent about this, until it happens in your town or to someone you know or love.

  7. Thank you. This is a good and necessary idea.

  8. I'm sure the neighbors will appreciate it if we car pool as much as possible. Also, the street is a steep one, and anyone who has difficulty hiking should be dropped off in front of the house.

  10. Pasadena Star News today, front page, head line "Football culture covered Sandusky", this is so objectionable. Makes you wonder how many people are trying to sweep their dirt under the carpet right now. I hope the SMPD is on top of this.

Is he a front for this anti-Tattler website?
A front for Harriet Susan Henderson?
If Susan is doing this, she has hit an all time low. Just when we thought that impossible. GADS

  14. I'm 5:15 and can't stand to be there. The more my mind thinks of this the more I feel sorrow that this Matheson sicko will invade our Christmas. Please change the Candle Light Vigil for a time when more people can be made aware and a Christmas wont be tarnished by the likes of Matheson and associates. I thank you not matter what your decision.

  15. Spoke with a resident on Liliano at our exercise class this a.m. She was appalled. Does not know the guy. Knows the house--did a ton of remodeling. I told her of the vigil and that the police said it was o.k. But yes, be curteous to the neighborhood--they will have enough to deal with over time as this follows along.

Google maps this address and you will see that it backs up to a large water facility that Arcadia manages in our city limits. Can you imagine the solidture for the sordid acticity that might have gone on there. And even if the photos/videos are gone. The setting would still be very apparent.

    OMG

  16. If you change the date for the day Matheson gets out of prison that might work. Also, after the tree loss in the windstorm how about collecting $10 for each photo victim x 2000and planting memorial trees to express the kindness this community truly represents.

  17. Oh my gosh, 10:35, can't we talk about anything on this blog without tying it to Henderson? This is getting to be a broken record. Let's see the vigil for what it is, a celebration of life for all those who have suffered through the hands of a sick human being.

  18. An immediate deep, silent vigil by the community is one of the most powerful things that can be done in response to this, before all the legal mechanisms and unholy PR kick in during January. This is going to ramp up and go all over, people will be really angry; it'll be chaotic. Look how long it's reverberated in the Catholic Church, and the damage it's done to the entire institution.

  19. This is how the community can show people how deeply they care. Those who would like everyone to think that nothing has happened and we should all just forget about it need to see that we are not just concerned, but willing to leave our homes on a cold night and show it. This is a moral and ethical responsibility.

  21. The LA Times on November 16, 2010, reported that a settlement was reached in another child pornography case involving a Sierra Madre man named Awest, aka Andrew West Reid, Jr.

"According to his plea agreement in the criminal case, Awest took explicit photographs of the girl in January 2006 after her mother dropped her off at his Sierra Madre home so the girl could go to Disneyland with Awest and his family."

  23. The Wednesday night candle vigil on Lilliano will be quiet, silent and brief, from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, you can stay the entire half hour or briefly light your candle and have a moment of silence for victims of child abuse.
No speeches, etc.....just a quiet time for residents who care enough to do this in honor of victims.
If you're going to the Candlelight walk in town tonight, please remember these innocent victims of these terrible crimes.

Your silent prayers will send positive energy to the sadness this has brought to Sierra Madre.

  27. As the time goes near the birth of Christ, may we all celebrate the miracle of each father's & mother's child. Born innocent & pure, human & spiritual with a soul in the likeness of God.That being said....the antisocial\sociopath implicated himself by his own dellusions of gradiuer & heinous perversions. This town needs to be exorcised of this evil, starting at the Ascension church that he frequented. Obviously, he has a disturbed grasp of reality & should be kept away from honest poe[ple & especially children. Bye Bob, I'm lucky never to have known you. Swimming with sharks, Gidget

  28. Matheson was at the heart of so much of what passes for society and power in Sierra Madre.

  29. The emotional and disgusting side of this tragedy is being well addressed. I find myself equally concerned with who is pursuing the facts of what happened in Sierra Madre, who (if not the Council then who?) is responsible for this investigation, and when will the City (minus Councilwomen Walsh who feels its not the Council's responsibility to act), shed light on the circumstances that allowed another criminal activity exist right under our noses?

The Mayor and Police Chief need to immediately inform Parens, and Residents of what is going on and what is being done about it.

We seem to have a vacume of accountability in our City Administration and Council. Lets get on with the Criminal Investigation and our response to it.

I have an uneasy feeling that Sierra Madre is an "easy target for questionable if not Criminal Activity.

  30. I have confidence that John Crawford and the Tattler research team will find and demand answers to all your questions.
Most of us are parents or grandparents or teachers of children. We want to know our children are safe, if there are other pedophiles in Sierra Madre preying on kids.
We are very concerned with finding out all the facts in this case. I also think most of the press along with the Tattler is very concerned in finding out the truth and demanding action as well.
Pasadena Star News, Bill Coburn, Sierra Madre Weekly (Terry Miller) and John Crawford's Tattler are all reporting this.
If the city and certain members of the city staff and council knew about this before the press reported it, we need answers...and we need the truth.
Thank you Tattler people who are working on this as I type. Thank you to the above mentioned press for working on this as well.
Especially Brian of the Star News who has called people I know, wanting information.
Good job to you and of course John Crawford who has reported what we know and will get all the facts and demand answers and justice.

  31. Anyone that cannot recognize the responsibility of the City Council to act on this repugnant & vile case of a CIty Commerce figure & his influence in elections & enmeshed lascivious activities of his private life has got to be ignorant & lack moral fiber with no conscience & probably an antisocial misfit at that. If you are part of C.C. & will not take responsibility...then what is your responsibility. C.C. is the guardian of your residents & working for them, otherwise you should be taken out for your lack of taking responsibility. Kind of an oxymoron of misguided self importance & self empowerment. Just musing on an amusing character or lack thereof. God Bless Sierra Madre!!!!!! Thank God for MaryAnn.

  32. 7:30 pm

Are you insinuating that our gang of 3 on the city council is not acting in our best interests?

    Well, damn, you're right!

Lookie here, they lie about taxes, water pipes, water rates, the ALF project, our budget, our emergency services.
Do we need a forensic audit on these bums?
    You bet!

Now it looks like this gang just may have known about this Matheson creep and didn't disclose it to the public. If this is true. They all need to resign, including the idiot Walsh.
They aren't just corrupt in our business interests, they are morally corrupt as well.

  33. Sorry, the City Council cannot do anything about this. They exist to make policy. It is up to the law enforcement people to step up. Call on our police chief to start an investigation.

We need a vigil in town in honor of the children when the children are watching.

Being in front of his home is symbolic. The reality is children need to know and ADULTS are responsible for our children and do not take this responsibility seriously.

FACT: Pedophilia is under-reported because of the fear of young males being suspected of being gay. We need to send messages to our children that 1) it is NOT your fault 2)to report anything uncomfortable to a responsible adult 3)that in many states, including California, children ARE protected under CIVIL RIGHTS.

OUR children need to know we are here and we KNOW they have suffered and they do not have to keep the secret any longer, and we will support their testimony which takes courage.

  35. Council Member Walsh would have been wise to have said " I support the authorities as they go forward with their investigation."

Now why didn't she say this, a simpler statement of leadership? We all know why!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Translated Nancy Walsh: It's not my fault! Leave me alone!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry 9:36, but in this town the City Council is the ultimate authority. They can demand an investigation but as of now we haven't heard a word from our City Council leader, Mayor John Buchanan. 8 weeks after Matheson was arrested John has not spoken about this once, and has made no effort to push forward some real action to see if anyone else was involved in his crimes.

    You can only wonder why.

  38. There has been a Liliano neighborhood watch block meeting sceduled for the same night- wednesday night December 21st at 7.00pm at the search and rescue center at the bottom of Liliano drive. The police department will be discussing the Matheson situation

  39. Perhaps this type of ugly revelation will finally encourage the powers that be that the safety of the children, rather than the foliage and the facade of Sierra Madre Elementary is of the utmost importance. Perhaps now Sierra Madre's Elementary school will be a secured campus like all other schools in the area so we won't need to wonder what could have happened.....Sierra Madre is not immune to the dregs of society, even if they hobnob with the town elite.
