Sierra Madre man was extorted through a dating app
SIERRA MADRE - A local resident who was encouraged to dance while undressed in an online chatroom, was then extorted for $750 when he was told the video would be sent to his phone contacts, Sierra Madre officials said Monday.
According to the report, the victim was directed by the phone application on August 5 to download a chat room onto his computer, where a naked Asian woman danced and encouraged him to join in.
Once he did, the woman disappeared and a message popped up on his screen informing him that he had been filmed.
To prevent the video from being sent to his mobile contacts, officials said the victim agreed to pay more than $750.
The victim then notified the site he had reported the incident to the FBI and Internet Crime Complaint Center, at which point the messages stopped and his money was collected in the Philippines.
The case has been forwarded to the Sierra Madre detectives bureau.
(Mod: I'm not quite sure what exactly Detective Amos is going to do about this situation. Hopefully it does not involve him taking his gun out of its holster.)
