|Cray & In The Way|
Naturally we are working very hard to download the video segment of Nancy's latest shocking episode so that you might be able to enjoy it here. Plus it did happen rather early in the meeting, so I do suspect a lot of people might have missed what could have been one of the most astonishingly weird Council Chambers performance in this town's storied history. Which, if you think about it, is really saying quite a lot. But we can be bold.
We also think that we might have a statewide winner here as well. There is a website called California City News.org that is somehow connected to the League of California Cities, but I won't hold it against them. And on that site they host this little section called the Gadfly Hall of Fame, which features videos of people speaking at public comment in City Halls all over America. Videos that are just so far over the top that they become something very special. You can check it all out here.
So what exactly did Nancy Walsh say? Besides using the word (forgive me) "bullshit" three times? An outburst of profanity that I can't recall having heard the likes of in Council Chambers before last night. And certainly not what you'd expect from a Mayor first elected to office as a member of something called a Civility Party.
Here is how a commenter last night described Nancy's three minutes of cray:
I think Nancy Walsh has lost her mind. And what is with the potty mouth? Was Walsh really comparing Delmar to a child molester? Was Walsh also dissing her BFF, the City Manager? Did the water dept really declare BK in June? Even after the water rate increases? (18% and 19% in the last six months?). What is in this "secret" document?
Like I said, I hope to have the video up in a couple of days. But if I was one of the City Councilmembers that Nancy Walsh compared to a "child molester" last night, I'd be dialing up my lawyer right about now.
Kudos to the City Council
A big salute to the CC for not giving the so-called "Consideration of a Property Sale Inspection Program" item the time of day. And another big salute to all of those who came out to speak against it. It really is pretty gratifying that so many people are showing up at City Council meetings these days to challenge whatever outrages are being foisted on this community.
Here is the one remaining question on this one. How did this thing actually get on a City Council agenda? Who put it there? Last night nobody was saying.
The General Plan was also attended to with great skill and aplomb. But this thing really does need to be fast-tracked in the most urgent way possible. The stakes are much too high, and we can ill-afford to leave this project unfinished for too much longer.
Sometimes you have to feel sorry for City Councilmembers
So after having worked into the late evening hours fending off crazy former Mayors and equally batty agenda items, this morning they have to be over at the YAC at 8:30am to answer ridiculous questions such as these:
You really have to wonder how they manage to hold up as well as they do.
