Anonymous Election Mailers - Is Turnabout Fair Play?

 . . .
We had seen a number of anonymous mailers coming from the Torres / establishment camp, but none so far from the other side. That is until yesterday afternoon. The following was received in his snail mail by an attentive Tattler reader, then scanned, and sent here to me. Much to my eternal and undying gratitude. It made my day, actually.

This mailer features some of the same Superior Court documents that we posted here on Feb 23, so I am going to assume that whoever is responsible for this one reads my blog. The reference is to Torres' arrest and conviction for driving drunk a few years back, which also explains those prison bars.

Like most anonymous political material of this kind, it was apparently mailed without the knowledge of either camp. And I certainly wasn't going to question anybody about it. At least not until I got this colorful example of the art form posted here on The Tattler. Why would I want to ruin all of the fun?

The Peter Dreier inclusion is especially telling. As you might be aware, Occidental College Professor Peter Dreier has been a particularly divisive influence during this election cycle. Known for his extreme leftwing politics, he teaches the children of wealthy people the kinds of political perspectives that might be useful if you were from, say, Pyongyang. However, here in the United States that kind of a degree generally guarantees students many futile years of living in their parents' basements.

The yearly cost of an Occidental College education is in the $60,000 a year range, or nearly a quarter of a million dollars for an undergraduate degree. That would make it an odd location to be teaching failed economic theories from last century based on the destruction of the "ruling class." All to the pampered children of, you got it, the ruling class. Perhaps we should say he is teaching a fantasy form of patricide?

I am going to assume Dreier was included in this flyer because its authors suspect him of being among the individuals responsible for the anonymous "Smear Siraganian" campaign that was unleashed a number of weeks back. Dreier also sent out some rather scandalous mass emails (and on an Occidental College e-mail account no less) to the registered voters of PUSD District 6. Again, there was no positive political purpose to any of this, it was just straight out slash and burn attacks. Done in hopes of destroying a political opponent that refuses to toe a certain destructive left wing/government employee union political line.

So is turnabout fair play in this case? I certainly think so. The onslaught of anonymous mailings and e-mail blasts directed against the Siraganian campaign, and for weeks now, has been intense.

And it has not stopped, either. Yesterday an e-mail blast out of Glendale not only named each of Sandi Siraganian's three children, but also their birth dates and where they came into this imperfect world. Even the maternity ward is not out of bounds for these people.

It was bizarrely cruel and hateful.

I've been around for a little bit and have seen some pretty horrible things happen during local elections like this. Even school board elections, believe it or not. As always, it is really all about your taxpayer money. And anyone suspected by certain entrenched and bloated special interests of being a political threat to their continued gorging at the public tax trough is going to be on the receiving end of a lot of nasty garbage.

So whoever mailed out the flyer I posted here today? Let's have an encore, my friends. There is still a little time left, and you're rocking them back on their heels.

I'm hearing they're scared to death.

  1. Ok, the Torres team has crossed the line! so much for the " I love the children" lie. In a campaign one can attack the candidate all one wants, that part f the deal, but one's family and children are off limits. They are not running for office. This is unconscionable behavior. Will Torres have enough moral fiber to apologize? It is very telling what kind of a man he really is.

    1. I doubt Larry knows half of this stuff is even going on. They just pat him on the back and tell him not to worry. He is a very passive candidate.

  2. The Torres campaign is no longer just a war on women, it ihas now taken it to the level of war on the children. this man and his campaign apparently condone putting children at risk by releasing personal information about them. How can Torres claim to be for the children when his actions speak so loudly to the contrary? Why doe he hate women and children?

    1. I will be writing about this attack over the weekend.

    2. I think the big question is: Will Larry Torres tell his campaign supporters to STAND DOWN and quit their war on women and innocent children?

Torres' supporters need to ask themselves: Do I support these methods just to get "my guy" elected?

Can I look myself in the mirror and say this war on Sandi's kids is good?

    3. The Torres campaign's use of surrogates to carry out this war on women is equally reprehensible.

    4. How can Torres claim to love kids when he doesn't call out attacks made on someone else's kids in his name?

    5. So you know, this email attack on Sandi's family was sent out to most media outlets in Los Angeles County. So far this blog is the only one to push back. I'll have an article up Sunday. We'll see if anyone else has joined us.

  3. There is only one reason that the Marxist Professor over at Occidental College is helping Larry Torres. Its because Larry Torres shares his philosophy. We all know about the "hate America" crowd. The hard-left once the same indoctrination that occurs in the colleges from Marxist professors like Dreier to occur in the lower schools as well.

    1. It is kind of a reverse distribution of wealth. Your tax money is taken from you, then through a fixed system put into the pockets of people that make way above the national average salary.

    2. I always found it interesting that a number of those folks (like Dreier) will make more than $150,000 a year from taxpayer $$ / student tuition $$ / endowment contribution $$ and then lecture the public sector on:
      1. Wealth Disparity
      2. Increasing the minimum wage

    1. Sandi stands in the way of the United Teachers of Pasadena (UTP) getting their first big ass $$ raise in a number of years. Who cares if the monies could be used for teaching the children more effectively?

    2. Sandi isn't anti-teacher. She just wants most of the resources to go to the classroom, not top heavy administration and consultants.

    3. 7:51, what a great concept!

    4. Yes! That is exactly what the special interests do not want. For the money to go to teachers and their students. PUSD teachers have to buy materials for their classrooms out of their own pockets. Why? Because all the money goes to the fat cats.

    5. Bunch of that money is being "transferred" to nefarious bond consultants too, no doubt.

  7. This whole campaign shows just how far Union members will go to protect their salaries and pensions. They must retain in power those who will vote for their agenda, no matter what. all the lip service to "loving the children" is just that - lip service. they care nothing for the children or what they are learning or what type of future society they are creating. The Union members care only for their immediate power base to continue to fleece the taxpayers for the Union's own benefit. And you see when someone like Sandra Siriganian challenges them they will hold back nothing in order to destroy her. I willl vote for this courageous woman who is willing to fight the beast.

  9. Candidates are public figures but their adult children are not. A decision by a relative doesn't make you a public figure. I would encourage the adult children to sue the author of the email (and anyone who forwards it or repeats its content) for libel and invasion of privacy.

  10. 8:37 am.....Sandi's two sisters and her mother are school teachers....several other relatives of her family are teachers.
She is pro-teacher. Pro parents. Pro students....Pro honest government.
How these people are attacking this honest lady is beyond me....looks like the WAR ON WOMEN is alive and well in this ELECTION.
Vote for Sandi.....She is honest, well qualified and committed to doing a good job on the Pasadena School Board....we all need to get out and vote for her!
    Tuesday...March 10th........VOTE...it is very important.
