Mountain Views News Publisher Susan Henderson Gives Her School Board Endorsement To Larry Torres - Torres Camp Reportedly Begging Her To Take It Back

A political kiss of death?
There was an especially important and quite a stunning break for the Sandra Siraganian campaign for a Board of Education seat yesterday. The multiple-named Harriett Susan Poole Carter Henderson, locally noted Publisher for that reliquary of warmed over press releases, unsubstantiated rumors, poppycock and spelling errors known as The Mountain Views News, endorsed poor old Larry "DUI" Torres for Sierra Madre's Board of Education seat.

PUSD Board candidate Larry Torres, visibly shaken by this unfortunate turn of events, was later reported being seen over on Sunnyside Avenue by multiple observers, down on his hands and knees in Susan's front yard and literally begging her to take the endorsement back. However, as if this typing there is no talk of any potential lawsuits quite yet. Though that could certainly follow.

So why is all of this happening? Because practically anyone and everything Harriet Susan (etc.) endorses for office either loses or runs away in terror. Animate or inanimate. Honestly, if I was running for an office in Sierra Madre, I'd pay her to endorse the other guy. Who, I am sure, would probably do exactly the same. Heck, it could result in a bidding war. Think of the potential financial gains to the paper for endorsing the other guy. It could be a windfall for this marginally financed publication.

Here is the shocking H.S.P.C.H. record on political endorsements.

2010 - Henderson endorsed Councilmember Joe Mosca. He later resigns his seat and flees the country.

2012 - Henderson endorses Colin Braudrick for City Council. Chris Koerber wins by a substantial margin.

2012 - Henderson endorses UUT #1. It lost in a landslide.

2014 - Henderson hoped to endorse Josh Moran and Nancy Walsh for re-election, but both refused to run.

2014 - Henderson endorses "Naked" Noah Green for City Council. Denise Delmar wins.

2014 - Henderson endorses UUT #2. It suffers the same ignoble fate as UUT #1.

2014 - Henderson endorses Paul Tanaka for Sheriff. Jim McDonnell eventually wins with over 80% of the vote.

2015 - Henderson endorses Larry Torres.

This is a substantial losing streak, and the value of a Mountain Views News endorsement is now being called into question. One respected local campaign manager is reported as saying, "If I was Larry Torres I'd be begging her to take it back, too!"

We broke the news about Larry Torres' arrest and conviction for drunken driving last week. Certainly that is something most parents are not looking for when choosing an educator. But are you aware of H. Susan Henderson's own run-in with behavioral infamy? Here is the San Francisco Examiner report that details her forced resignation from a high Democratic Party office in California for alleged corruption (link).

Demo leader resigns under fire H. Susan Henderson, onetime Republican turned executive director of the California Democratic Party, has resigned her $78,000-per-year post amid controversy over alleged resume-pumping and questionable expenditures on a party credit card.

State party chair Bill Press announced Henderson's departure Wednesday, the same day The Examiner reported that she had registered to vote as a Republican barely two years before taking the $78,000-per-year Democratic Party post.

The Examiner also reported that the University of California had no record of awarding Henderson a law degree and an MBA, as she had claimed on her resume, and that a Sunnyvale business executive said Henderson had failed to repay a $2,000 loan.

A confidential news source said that California Democrats, who face the crucial 1996 election with a deficit of $1 million, would pay Henderson $25,000 in exchange for her resignation.

The issue of resume' pumping was among the charges being leveled against Susan at the time. That is, claiming university degrees and honors she apparently never earned. Speaking of an education issue.

Again, from the San Francisco Examiner report:

Henderson states that she holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio State University, but a spokeswoman said Ohio State had never granted a degree to Harriet Susan Henderson or Harriet Poole, Henderson's maiden name.

Henderson's resume also says that she holds an "M.B.A. / J.D." from the University of California, without specifying a campus.

Spokesmen at UC-Berkeley, UCLA and UC-Davis, the three UC campuses that have both law and business schools, said no such degrees had been issued to H. Susan Henderson or Harriet Poole.

Here is a screenshot from Susan's current Linked In page (link). As you can easily see, Susan Henderson is still claiming that she has a degree from Ohio State University.

At least she isn't still telling people she has degrees from the University of California these days.

Oh wait, she is.

The only question remaining now is will H. Susan Henderson (etc.) accede to Larry Torres' pleas and take The Mountain Views News endorsement back.

We'll let you know as soon as we hear.

  1. Give Susan credit for being economically minded. claiming schools from which you never received a degree is a bargain minded way to build your credentials. Oh, did I mention that I went to Harvard? yes, I walked across their campus one day and visited one of their museums while I was there.

  2. Siraganian must be dancing in the streets this morning with her opponent getting the endorsement form Henderson's rag.

If you look up rag in Merriam-Webster it says it all, #3 newspaper; especially : a sleazy newspaper.

Most of us know there has been some real sleazy work from that rag.

  5. Imagine a torres fundraiser with Torres mixing mail tais while the fat white oxy from chats up the Katherine graham of sierra madre, while Larry Boy Wilson takes it all in and writes of their brilliant educations in a star news endorsement with the breathy tone of a teen mag writing about bieber.

    2. Susan Henderson is pretty typical of the political establishment in this part of the county. None of them ever seem to go away.

  9. The power of the pen at work has always been a concerning factor. You don't know what to believe with so much being written and twisted. I see the advertisements on even food that if incorrect could cause you health problems, even death. When you mix the power of the pen with politics your effecting the lives of a great deal of the population, some for a lifetime. What do we do, read more.

  10. Torres just received the kiss of death with that endorsement. What a track record. Can you imagine what Sierra madre would have been like if all of her endorsements had emerged victorious.

  14. I am proud of Miss Siragarian's efforts. But, my vote is with Torres because he does know about the SCC, Title I, writing a school plan, and having the experience and ability to create a school for children who have the lowest scores and often the worst behavior He tried to improve their academic and emotional lives. Yes, they failed and did not go to college, but studies know that they will know someone gave them a chance, they were not thrown into jail, and they most likely will be better off in the future because an educator cared. His connection to children and the fact that he knew the many involved steps it took to create a school is more than most board members ever did/do.

I do not care about endorsements. That is pure gossip,. Really, seriously. Who reads Susan's paper anyway? And, I rather a recovered alcoholic from his teen years, than someone who recently posted racist remarks and then states "It was a joke."

Anything adults post on line, is never a joke and must be looked at as bullying and scare tactics and their honest feelings.
This is scary since in all of our schools we have children from every walk of life.

With some time and experience Miss. Siraganian would be a wonderful candidate. Perhaps, she would be willing to really work volunteer) next to a teacher on a permanent level and get to know the system, the children and the issues in education,
    which keep changing.

Children come first. How many people outside of the classroom in the past year really get that?

    2. 11:53 - judging by the mess the establishment has made of the PUSD, I think an outsider is definitely called for. The same old faces just aren't cutting it. You do know that Torres was not the first choice, right? But they were forced to settle on a third rate administrator from a failed school, with a past he lacked the honesty to own up to.
