It's April Fool's Day, So Let's Talk About California State Assemblyman Mike Gatto

The Self-Styled Sweet Dude?
Can it possibly be that California State Assemblyman Mike Gatto is the strangest elected official in Sacramento? Certainly the two anonymous blogs that many folks believe he runs (or done for him with his blessing and guidance) present an image of the fellow that just isn't quite what you'd expect from an ambitious member of California's dysfunctional legislative body.

The blogs we are discussing today are called "The Burbank Blog," and the luridly pornographic "Mike Gatto Is A Sweet Dude." Neither are done under his name per se, but both do work quite hard to promote the interests of Assemblyman Gatto himself. And in a way so slavishly worshipful of the Assemblyman that you would have to assume he is writing all of this stuff himself. Who else would?

Now The Tattler rather innocently fell afoul of the "Sweet Dude" blog because we mentioned Gatto in passing in a post a few months back. Since that unhappy day we have been depicted on this Mike Gatto related blog as having sex with barnyard animals, participating in unsafe homoerotic sex, and then some other things that I wouldn't ever want to mention here. Ironically, all apparently done in the name of defending the on-line reputation of Glendale and Burbank's State Assemblyman, Mike Gatto.

However, I am not the only one who has run afoul of the Sweet Dude's wrath. Not by a long shot. If you go to the Sweet Dude site you will find that they actually keep an "enemies list," ala Benito Mussolini. Listed there you will find various news journalists, bloggers, rival politicians and legislators, John and Ken from KFI, and then just random folks who for whatever reason somehow were singled out as a threat to the interests of Mike Gatto.

In a lot of ways it is similar to the old Sierra Madre Cumquat website, only far nastier. But instead of supporting the bumpkins of the Mayberry Mafia, "Mike Gatto Is A Sweet Dude" was created to promote the political career of an actual elected California State Assemblyman.

Creeped out California has never gotten any weirder than this.

Here is the shtick for the "Sweet Dude" site. If you somehow offend Mike Gatto (who apparently is a thin-skinned and choleric fellow), you find yourself being disparaged in various vile and disgusting ways on the Mike Gatto Is A Sweet Dude blog site. Which then shows up on search engines all over the Internet, entwining your name and some pretty appalling language for years.

Some people worry about being portrayed in that sort of way, which is the point. The intended purpose here being intimidation, of course. By depicting people in bizarrely pornographic ways on a site that many believe he is intimately familiar with, the hope is to discourage anyone who might criticize Mike Gatto. It is a news and information suppression strategy, one that I suspect can be a successful one.

Except for The Tattler, of course. Whatever gets the most Internet traffic and attention is fine with us. Besides, it's not like there is very much I haven't been called already.

Young Mike Gatto

Let me give you an example of the Sweet Dude website in action. Ron Kaye, a leading news journalist in the Los Angeles area, wrote an investigative article about Mike Gatto and some of the work he had been doing on behalf of the San Fernando Valley based pornographic film industry. The porn industry being a generous donor of political campaign funds, of course, and therefore sure Gatto bait. Here is a portion of that report (link).

Ron Kaye: Mike Gatto and the condom measure - Mike Gatto is a clever fellow. But like a lot of smart guys, he's sometimes too clever for his own good.

A case in point came a week ago when the AIDS Healthcare Foundation denounced the assemblyman as "a pornographer's best friend" for blocking consideration of a bill that would require the use of condoms in all adult film production in California, a requirement approved by Los Angeles County voters last year.

The group's president, Michael Weinstein, accused Gatto during a teleconference of "single-handedly" putting the measure on hold and refusing to let it come to a vote even when his stated concerns about its constitutionality were answered by a federal court judge in late August.

"He is serving the interests of the pornographers," Weinstein said in announcing that 1,000 protest letters were being sent and a robo-call campaign to 100,000 of his constituents was under way.

Good stuff, and Ron Kaye needs to be commended for bringing this example of Gattoid sleaze to the public's attention. But on the "Mike Gatto Is A Sweet Dude" website they went completely out of their minds. Crazy bananas. And what they posted there about Kaye pretty much defies description. The word obscene does no justice to what you can find there.

The Tattler is not the only blog to write about this sad situation. One that I happen to like called Mayor Sam's Sister City also posted about the Mike Gatto Is A Sweet Dude website. Here is what they had to say (link):

Is This The Kind of Offensive Material Mike Gatto Wants His Name Associated With? A blog dedicated to Assemblyman Mike Gatto is amusing as it is disturbing; but some of the content on it does not seem befitting of an elected official.  While one would assume that Gatto and his official staff have nothing to do with the Mike Gatto is a Sweet Dude blog (or at least HOPE!), we wonder why the Gattoistas have not (to our knowledge anyway) made public attempts to distance themselves from the blog and it's creators.

(Quoted from Sweet Dude) "You may remember Nahabedian as one of the pathetic joke candidates Mike Gatto crushed as he took control of the 43rd District. She ran a relentlessly negative campaign against Mike Gatto, which probably had less to do with politics than it did with her obvious desire to possesses him sexually."

We published yesterday the blog's creation of a "Gatto Enemies List," that featured of course, us, as well as other bloggers and individuals in the community.  The list is growing thankfully, and one of the additions is radio talk show host and mayoral candidate, Kevin James.  Seething in their hate of anyone who doesn't have a regard for Gatto of the highest order, the blog noted that James is not an attorney.  Of course, anyone who has a clue knows that James spent several years as a US Attorney and has been in private practice for many years.

We digress.  The most disgusting thing however (outside some graphic references to the Los Angeles Dragnet blog and certain sex toys - NSFW) is a claim that former Gatto Assembly opponent and Glendale School Board Member, Nayiri Nahabedian wants Gatto sexually. If that isn't slander, I don't know what is.  I would be surprised if Nahabedian's attorneys are not looking into the matter.

While we're fans of snarky, biting commentary and holding elected officials' feets to the fire, this Gatto themed blog has gone from amusing to disturbing to disgusting.  We would encourage each of you to contact the office of Assemblyman Mike Gatto (by web or by phone at: (818) 558-3043) and urge he publicly denounce it.

The scary thing is this blog has announced the coming of a "Kidz Korner." Any parent who allows their children to even get close to a blog with the filth this one publishes likely should be reported to Child Protective Services.

That was published in 2011. Since then neither Mike Gatto or any of his people have once taken Mayor Sam's suggestion and denounced this pornographic blog, one that prominently displays the Assemblyman's name and headshot in its masthead. Along with the observation that he is a "Sweet Dude."

And why should they? Chances are pretty good that what a lot of people have been saying about the site is correct. That Gatto either writes and publishes all of that stuff himself, or is closely associated with those that do.

Oh, one more thing. The Sweet Dude will be running for the 25th California State Senate District seat in 2016. Chances are good that if you are reading this site the "pornographer's best friend" will be asking you for your vote, and fairly soon.

Which could explain the Sweet Dude site's bizarre unhinged rage at The Tattler.

Anyway, Happy April Fool's Day! An event that in California happens almost daily.

    3. No contest - listen to Portantino politely and accurately take down the financial shenanigans of the 710, then look at the kind of material Gatto allows in his support.

    5. Sorry, unclear post. I meant he supports the crummiest kind of politicking.
As to the 710, he has issued a statement that he is opposed to it.

    6. Considering the huge amounts of construction and union money he takes, I am not sure I'd trust him.

    7. Gatto is a nut and I'm sure he is associated with that blog. I recall the disgusting comment he said about the Tattler...."suck the ........... I won't repreat it here but I've rarely seen that kind of vitriol. I guess Gatto thinks it intimidates people and maybe he is such a coward he can't take people on himself. That man should not be entrusted with any public office. He hides behind that disgusting blog - what a joke.

    8. The tactic is very similar to the one used here with the Cumquat. Maybe sleazy political consultants recommend it.

  6. Gatto is a baffoon. Nobody in their right mind should ever vote for him. If somebody put up a website like that, I would take legal action to bring it down....unless of course you are behind it and writing the material. The fact that he hasn't disapproved it or taken any legal action to stop it, plainly says that he supports the content or he writes the content. Either way, Gatto has to go.

  7. I went to the Mike Gatto blog and under some postings regarding the Tattler, there were multiple pictures of excrement in toilets to convey what they think about the Tattler. It really doesn't get any sicker than those folks.

  8. How can we stop the blasted horn from blasting in our neighborhood??? We already have several warning systems in place that have worked well for years, with NO problems. These systems do not intrude on our daily lives. The City Manager and City Mayor will not help. Only obsolete systems need to be tested everyday. This obsolete systems costs us taxpayers money, annoys residences, causes injury, and opens our city up to lawsuits. If those hungry for olden days insist, at least put the horrible thing back on the fire house, as it once was.

But, there are more and more people in Pasadena admitting they've given this guy money.
