A Tattler Milestone Of Sorts

What we have been calling The Sierra Madre Tattler blog since late 2008 crossed the 4 million page views (AKA "hits") mark yesterday, which is a significantly large number for a local muckraking news site that mainly covers just a few relatively small San Gabriel Valley communities. I thought I'd celebrate this milestone of sorts by taking the night off and writing about nothing much else besides that number. And I almost did.

Well OK, so there is also this:
Some interesting sports stats from the Los Angeles Times (link).

And then there is the obligatory Prince item:

There is this, too (link):

See you tomorrow.

  1. Congratulations! It's no surprise because you report what has never been reported by other outlets. Without the Tattler, Arcadia would be stuck with Bulldozer Bob and more McMansions. The Tattler shines light on the facts the city never shares. Thank you for the obvious hard work.

  2. Congratulations, Mr. Tattler! Thank you for becoming the voice of Sierra Madre's, Arcadia's and Pasadena's working-class citizens. They didn't have a voice in public opinion before you showed up.

I do have to question your judgement in letting me write columns now and then, though.

  3. The Tattler has made a difference. Not too many people can say that about what they do in life. Thank you for everything you do to shine a spotlight on corruption, hypocracy, and every other crazy thing that goes on in life.

  4. Because this is The Tattler and we don't care, I just found out how much the CalSTRS pension the former (and reportedly not so great) principal of Sierra Madre Elementary, Gayle Bluemel, got in 2014: $114,602.22 or $ 9,550.18 a month.

    Here's the link:

And alleged State test score cheating occurred under her SME watch. Wonder how much you get if your staff doesn't cheat on the state tests?

    3. and it's not that she earned it and stockpiled the money - it's a ponzi scheme for her and many many others that you, I, children, grandchildren will be paying for years to come in taxes

even though we lost on the UUT, I will always vote NO or against any bond or tax measure until the public pension system is gutted, replaced and all public employees retire with the same reality that the private sector has

    7. There is not a single report up yet about Goss becoming Mayor. Not even on the city's website. Then again, they got their money. Why should they care?

    8. After raising your UUT tax rate 66%, the City will still tell you that they don't have the budget to update the web site promptly.

Gotta use the UUT $$ for our "special" SMPD and their CalPERS Platinum pensions.

    4. I thought the idea was to have treatment centers located close to transportation, restaurants, businesses - not stuck in a singe family neighborhood.
That'll do wonders for those property values. Hey, a suddenly cheaper area of Sierra Madre!

    7. 22 W Carter Ave, new McMansion. Kind of a junky pile, website says they're just starting up. These "group homes" are allowed into communities "by right" via LA County regulations (no CUP or Variance required for 6 occupants or less). The deal is good cash flow to the actual owner of the residential property, it's a business model. Take the right insurance plans, and you're in business, good as gold. Owner/investor makes out like a bandit, too. This relieves the County from having to provide facilities or services, it's all the Public/Private Partnership (PPP). Altadena (LA Co census place, not a city) got overrun with these things and that community went up in arms over it. Now they're proliferating in many communities, San Marino has several of them.
