Watch Tuesday Evening's Sierra Madre City Council Meeting Here - If You Dare

I've begun to think of this as the Seinfeld City Council. Not due to anything funny ever happening there because that is decidedly not the case. This is not a humorous bunch. Rather it is a show about nothing. You can watch an entire meeting and see nothing in particular, and nothing much ever changes.

Quite a feat if you think about it.

Of course, this could be deliberate strategy. Given some of the chaos from the not too distant past, many in town might feel this is preferable. With perhaps the best way of taking the residents out of the picture being to simply bore them to death by feeding them a steady diet of nothing.

If that is the case, then they have succeeded admirably.

On that rather privacy-averse "WaterSMART" Consent Calendar item there was virtually no discussion. Not a single solitary word. How can you spend $75,000 without saying anything? The Seinfeld City Council did just that.

Rachelle Arizmendi was absent, Denise Delmar attended by phone from a hotel somewhere, the three dudes sat motionlessly, just staring at the papers the Interim City Manager had prepared for them. The item passed unanimously. No one on the council had any comment, nor did anyone in the public speak at the podium. Business as usual, and nothing that wasn't predicted here.

Obviously Sierra Madre is no hotbed of civil liberties these days. The only priorities now seem to be the ones that city staff wants. Especially those that give them an upper hand over residents.

All is not lost, however. There was a reader comment that made me laugh.

Thank God for the comments.

Back to our coverage of the American Constitutional Crisis

ModNBC News came up with an interesting article yesterday (link). Thought I should share it with you here.

U.S. Officials: Putin Personally Involved in U.S. Election Hack (NBC News link): U.S. intelligence officials now believe with "a high level of confidence" that Russian President Vladimir Putin became personally involved in the covert Russian campaign to interfere in the U.S. presidential election, senior U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News.

Two senior officials with direct access to the information say new intelligence shows that Putin personally directed how hacked material from Democrats was leaked and otherwise used. The intelligence came from diplomatic sources and spies working for U.S. allies, the officials said.

Putin's objectives were multifaceted, a high-level intelligence source told NBC News. What began as a "vendetta" against Hillary Clinton morphed into an effort to show corruption in American politics and to "split off key American allies by creating the image that [other countries] couldn't depend on the U.S. to be a credible global leader anymore," the official said.

Ultimately, the CIA has assessed, the Russian government wanted to elect Donald Trump. The FBI and other agencies don't fully endorse that view, but few officials would dispute that the Russian operation was intended to harm Clinton's candidacy by leaking embarrassing emails about Democrats.

The latest intelligence said to show Putin's involvement goes much further than the information the U.S. was relying on in October, when all 17 intelligence agencies signed onto a statement attributing the Democratic National Committee hack to Russia.

Mod: So why would a ruthless and bloody autocrat like Vladimir Putin prefer Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton? Obviously you must know the answer to that.

  3. LOL. The Seinfeld do nothing comedy continues with the no drama Obama era. Key words being said :fingerprints, covert, US Intelligence and Diplomatic spies! Oh, and Channel 4.!!!
The US hasn't been viewed as a reliable Global Leader for a period of time now.
A signed statement by the Intelligence agency and fingerprints all over the place; and yet still no sign if those 33,000 "missing" Hillary Clinton e-mails.
I can understand those Allies being upset that all their good monies "donated" to Hillary when she held the title of Secretary of State, will no longer "buy" them a place holder in American Politics.
Embarrassing Democratic e-mails, because the GOP are a boring bunch with no spiteful spewing of hate to be found, coming from their e-mails.
Thirty States out of Fifty; including Putin, liked Hillary, that's gotta sting.

  4. Vladimir Putins Popularity Is Skyrocketing Among Republicans
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s net favorable rating among Republicans has climbed by an astonishing 56 percentage points since July 2014, according to a new YouGov/Economist poll.

Thirty-seven percent of Republicans polled hold a very or somewhat favorable opinion of Putin, while 47 percent hold a very or somewhat unfavorable opinion of him.

Though still negative overall, that -10 percentage point net approval rating represents a drastic increase from 2014, when Putin’s net favorable rating stood at -66 points among Republicans, according to YouGov Elections Editor Will Jordan.

  7. 7:56am. What are you talking about???
"If Russia influenced the Election, it happened on Obama's watch". Why isn't he applying any sanctions against Russia? He is still the President. Why 4 years ago did Obama, on an open mike, say something along the conversation of, when I am re elected things will be easier for our two Countries.
Now the Intel Community is reminding the Obama administration that confidential Information means just that !!!
The tantrums continue, the Dems really need a time out. Just take a breath then exhale. Try it three times and relax

    1. Thanks for the rant. So I take it you're OK with Russian hacking during an American election?

  8. What proof do you really have? Uncornfirmed sources in CIA are the source but there is no direct connection to anyone. Face it your candidate was the one who said videos were the cause of Benghazi. Look into that, four dead Americans, does that matter?

    1. Major news outlets like NBC and CBS, plus the Central Intelligence Agency, are not good enough for you, right? If it isn't Moscow supported websites like Wikileaks and Breitbart, it doesn't work for you. So tell me, why do you hate America so much?

      Delete
    2. So tell me, since clearly "you" are not an American. What shred of evidence does anyone have? Why; if the Donald said, go ahead Russia, hack away ... didn't Pres. Obama open an investigation that day? He's still in charge. Why did Hillary discount Putin's election? What was in it for her to insult another World leader? Maybe he couldn't be bought by the Clinton Foundation? So again, if it has been known by "all"; show the facts to back up the claim, or shut-up.

    3. Right, douchebags like you would be sniveling babes in the woods if you weren't able to blame Obama for everything. So where is the proof? It comes from the American news media, and the American intelligence community. I know how you hate all that stuff, everything American is evil to you, and why not? You are a 5th columnist in love with a foreign dictator, just like Trump. But it is good enough for me. Go move to Moscow with your hero Snowden. Think of all the fun you'll have hating America together.

  9. Ah; American "fake" News.
CIA, says Confidential Information is confidential, although Hillary claimed she hit her head and forgot what "C" stood for on her e-mails, the rest of Washington understands. So maybe you and Hillary have special tin foil hats giving you both special powers and you have passed additional hats to the fake News sources?
