Wm. Kefalas Lawyers Up & Other News From Tonight's Planning Commission Meeting Agenda

To view this Planning Commission meeting click here.

There were two items on the agenda for tonight's Planning Commission meeting, but one of them has been continued until later this February. Here is how it reads (link):

The lawyer recently retained by Willam and Anastasia Kefalas wrote a letter to City Hall asking for a little more time. He apparently needs a little space to grasp the full impact of what he is now walking into. Here is his letter.

Some may have noticed the name of Richard McDonald on this note. Richard is also the attorney representing the McMansion developers of the properties at One Carter, along with some similar big house interests in Arcadia. He is making quite a career for himself locally.

You just know things are going to get exciting. Who knows, maybe some day Richard will actually win something around here. You never can tell.

The other item, which is now the only one under consideration this evening, would have hopefully prevented all of the above had it been in place back when the Henry A. Darling home was still in one piece. However, today that horse is so far out of the barn it might already be several counties away. Here is how it reads (link):

Tonight the Planning Commission will be fine-tuning the language for this proposed new version of the Discretionary Demolition Permit. This is being done before it moves on to the City Council for its final approval.

The wheels are turning. We will post a link to the YouTube site showing tonight's Planning Commission meeting just as soon as it becomes available this afternoon. It is by far the best place to view such meetings on your computer.

  1. Huh. So Richard McDonald not only believes that mansionization is appropriate for Sierra Madre, he also thinks tearing down historic homes is OK? Can we get a restraining order?

  2. "Had it been in place". The Discretionary permit debacle. The Kefalas' have a strong case in their favor. I am not clear on why Mr. McDonald was retained, I thought the go ahead with construction was given? Maybe a snag or redesign from the City with roof lines or angles? Or C.P.U?

    1. I am not as certain as you that Kefalas has that strong a case. While the fine is pretty paltry, the two year moratorium on any further work on the project could be damaging. Not sure how he will be able to wriggle off that hook.

  3. If Kefalas hired Richard McDonald that tells us all we want to know about him. That's why I continue to boycott The Only Place I'm Town which fortunately isn't.

    1. You'll find you won't really miss the food. It has been skating off reputation for years. Probably all the time since Kefalas has owned it.

  4. McDonald and Kafalas are made for each other. They both display an arrogance that rises to operatic levels. What a team.

  5. Keep up the great work Planning Commission.

  6. Known to only a few in Sierra Madre. Is the fact that a demo permit has been issued for a house on Adams. The shack needs to go. Here is the concerning aspect. The new house will be prefabricated. These strucuyres lack design and go down in value. They bring the property values down. Do we really want these being plopped down all over town? I don't.

    1. A manufactured home in Sierra Madre? That is interesting. Are there regulations yet on such a thing? Has the Planning Commission deliberated on that yet?

    2. I am also for the sacrosanct right of property value to only go one way and that is up!

    3. Maybe it's a senior who can't afford a fancy mansion

    4. Prefab construction has evolved quite a bit; it's not just ugly mobile homes anymore. The proposed Adams house is only one story and meets all codes, so Planning Commission review isn't required.

    5. How do they get it on the lot? With a crane? That'll take a permit I'm sure.

    6. Have you looked at the plans 8:52? The "strucuyres" are very well designed and the one-story house fits on the lot much better than those MacMansions proposed for 1 Carter.

  7. I don't see arrogance from McDonald and Kefalas, but I do see a hugh lack of understanding of simple instructions and Ordinances, from both individuals.
I thought Kefalas had the go ahead to continue the build? Did the Planning Commission implement a two year moratorium? This has all been confusing and a clear lack of communications by all.

Unless, of course, you all continue to stop the government with rioting and congress sit-outs. Our representative Chu is a disgrace.
