Trump Held An Executive Order Signing Ceremony, Then Walked Away Without Signing Anything

Mod: This comes to all human consciousness from BuzzFeed, and gives us an intimate look at just how life is lived on Planet Trump

Trump Held An Executive Order Signing Ceremony, Then Walked Away Without Signing Anything (BuzzFeed link): President Trump held an executive order signing ceremony in the Oval Office on Friday where he planned to sign two orders that he said would start a “great revival” of US manufacturing.

"Thank you everybody," he said, speaking from the podium. "You're going to be seeing some very, very strong results very, very quickly. Thank you very much."

A reporter then tried to ask the president about Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser who has offered to testify on the Trump campaign's ties with Russia in return for immunity from prosecution.

But Trump was in no mood to answer questions and bolted for the door.

And there sat the two executive orders on his desk, unsigned.

The two orders targeted trade deficits, a topic that Trump promised to tackle repeatedly throughout his campaign. One was designed to identify trade deficits by country and by product, while the other aims to increase the collection of duties and imports.

Vice President Mike Pence then chased after Trump to try to stop him on his way out, pointing out that the orders were still waiting to be signed at his desk.

But Trump told Pence to grab the orders and he'd sign them out of view of the press.

So there went Pence ...

... all the way back to the president's desk to pick up the orders.

After Pence exited the room with the orders, confused reporters could be overheard wondering what was going on.

"So, he didn't sign them?" one puzzled reporter was heard asking.

"He did not sign them," another responded.

"He did not sign," another concluded.

The entire awkward moment can be seen here.

  1. The press answered their own question; the "press" are confused.
The "press", seldom remain on topic or lead with "fake"news news.
The American public deserve to have real reported news, not opion pieces.
Are there no Journalists? I have not had the pleasure of reading qualitative releases in years.
Report the news, remain on topic. Quit writting for "yourselves", do your job. "You" and your editors just may find an increase in readership, a revival of the written word.
As a consumer, this is my opion; otherwise there is the option of receiving the Presidential tweets, clear and fact based in real time.

  6. Those folders look like what my high school diploma came in. Do these executive signings really mean anything? Don't you need the approval of both houses of Congress to actually change US trade policy?

    2. An executive order is just that, a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law.

    3. Trade policy and tariff changes would need Congressional approval. These "executive signings" are PR stunts designed to give the impression that something is actually being done.

  9. One of the Most Frightening Things about Trump Is His Ignorance. Most of our Presidents, with a few exceptions, have been avid students of history and the Constitution. They understood the functions of government and the complexity of the job they were undertaking. They also knew that they did not know everything, and so they hired and appointed people who had specialized knowledge in specific areas.

Donald Trump is ignorant of most of what other Presidents had studied and learned about the job they faced. Worse, he is refusing to staff his administration with people who could advise him from a position of extensive knowledge. Most of his White House staff is as ignorant as he is, including his "family" advisers.

In most major departments under the Executive Branch, leadership positions are still vacant, with nobody appointed or nominated to fill those positions. Trump does not care about any of this, and believes, wrongly, that he can direct the country based on his "instincts." This willful ignorance and arrogance is an important factor, I believe, that should disqualify him from the position entirely.

We are being led by an ignorant, incurious and arrogant man, and he is surrounding himself with more like him. The future of our nation is in danger.

  10. Dunning–Kruger effect

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which low-ability individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability as much higher than it really is. Psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger attributed this bias to a metacognitive incapacity, on the part of those with low ability, to recognize their ineptitude and evaluate their competence accurately. Their research also suggests corollaries: high-ability individuals may underestimate their relative competence and may erroneously assume that tasks which are easy for them are also easy for others.

Dunning and Kruger have postulated that the effect is the result of internal illusion in those of low ability, and external misperception in those of high ability: "The miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."

New York Times Sunday magazine insert recently had a one page spread of a statement of disgust and disapproval signed by 5 million plus individuals world-wide.

Marijuana Could Soon be Regulated Like Alcohol in All 50 States
In eight states and Washington D.C., adults can legally consume marijuana—and that could soon change to adults in all 50 states. Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) recently introduced a bill that would make marijuana federally legal and allow the plant to be regulated as alcohol is in the U.S.

  14. 9:59 am. Did you know that the reason for those positions not being filled, are due to the sluggish (Dem.)Senators draging out appointments.
Your arguments of "lack" of knowledge, are juvenile at best, could you harbor an anti establishment with individuals with CEO as their title?
President Obama is a Constitutionalist, that did little for him, in signing a executive Order on Healthcare, with only Dem. Senators voting on passage of the bill; without reading it first!

  24. Nothingburgers!
*So on Friday the White House scheduled a ceremony in which Mr. Trump would sign two new executive orders on trade. The goal, presumably, was to counteract the growing impression that his bombast on trade was sound and fury signifying nothing.

Unfortunately, the executive orders in question were, to use the technical term, nothingburgers. One called for a report on the causes of the trade deficit; wait, they’re just starting to study the issue? The other addressed some minor issues of tariff collection, and its content apparently duplicated an act President Obama already signed last year.'
