I have received several complaints about the item reposted above, so maybe it is time this one got aired out a little. Our local adjudicated newsweekly of record, which prints precious little in the way of original reporting on news affairs of actual importance to this town, published this rather gruesome picture in the "Sierra Madre" section of last week's edition. What the grisly outcome of a bear hunt conducted in British Columbia by some yahoo from South Carolina has to do with Sierra Madre is beyond me.
Here is one such note.
I personally feel it was an extremely poor column, badly written and the photo one of the sickest I've ever seen. All this in a 'newspaper' that lives in the foothills with the beautiful bears.
Perhaps, just perhaps, I'm reading more into this than I need...but it is NEVER appropriate to kill innocent animals. Never. Moreover, publishing a photo like that just makes me sick...
Sierra Madre is a town that has learned to live with, respect, and even love, the wildlife that's inhabited this area for countless thousands of years. Certainly way before anything that looks like us ever arrived on the scene. By printing the above the Mountain Views News has at the very least shown an unfortunate disregard for a key value long shared by most living in this community.
Thank you to those who wrote in.
