A New Mailer from the Committee to Oppose Chandler - Plus: Where is Bob Harbicht Campaigning Today?

In case you do not live in the same Arcadia voting district as Roger Chandler, here is the latest mailer from the Committee to Oppose Chandler for Arcadia City Council. It makes for some enlightening reading, and it is pretty much an article all by itself. Of course, there are a few left who might not want anyone reading something like this, but you know what? Do you still know anyone who actually cares about what they think?

Where is Bob Harbicht campaigning today?

While Bulldozer Bob's hardworking volunteers are on the streets pounding on doors, passing out his situational funny papers and tirelessly manning the phones, you might want to know where the candidate himself is campaigning right now. Well, according to this social media communique, that would be somewhere in Hawaii.

  7. Where’s the new Asian (majority) District 2 people that supposedly wanted to be on council? You do remember you wanted this redistricting so you would get your fair representation, right? Or, was that just attorney Richard McDonald’s desire as a result of being paid by developers?

In this case, you’ll luck out since Bulldozer will go over a cliff and not win, but come on people, get involved.

  13. Imagine how the developers in Arcadia feel - having to face the consequences of their actions right and left. Ruin street after street with gargantuan castles, ruin the neighbors' quality of life in their own homes, and now finally, finally, city council is paying attention. Must be a hard change to go from unlimited ability to do whatever you want wherever you want, to having to abide by something like a set back, or FAR.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You wish. You think developers will cry over what's happening in Arcadia? If there's no money to be made here they will just leave. Arcadia is not the only City that they can develop in.

      Delete
    3. Yes. Two terms and they're done in the 'Dre. Thank God, because by then everyone is sick to death of them.

      Delete
    4. Term limits were voted for in a Sierra Madre election about 20 years ago. Two 4-year terms are allowed in succession and then you step off. Also, on our appointements to city commissions, the same holds true. Some commissioners are later reappointed as their service and expertise was valued. in the case of commissioners, one steps off for at least one year. We have had a City Council member run again for office and because of the election cycle it was a two year off period.

You could ask the Sierra Madre City Manager for the language of this resolution.

  15. This is proof how the FAR ordinance is unfair to south Arcadia. Using data from Arcadia’s R-1 zoning ordinances at:
    https://www.arcadiaca.gov/home/showdocument?id=6638

For a 10,000 sq. ft. lot in Santa Anita Village & Highland Oak HOA, the max house size is 3500 sq.ft. Same 10,000 lot in non HOA south of Huntington Dr is 4500 sq ft.

20,000 sq ft lot in SA/Highland Oak allows house size of 5250, same 20,000 lot in South Arcadia allows 8000 house.
Talk about South Arcadia residents getting SCREWED !!! What a joke.

Throw Chandler the hell out people.

    1. I was on the Zoning committee. We recommended lower FAR's for South Arcadia and several other areas but than Chandler and Sho and Segal were pulled by the developers' puppet master strings and voted to up the FAR. Indeed, South Arcadia and many other areas got screwed.

    2. Dude, i am a resident in south Arcadia, i voiced my objection to smaller FAR. i don't want to be regulated like HOA area. ok?! my area is non-HOA, and i want to keep it that way and i want a less tighten control and regulation on my property. I don't want smaller FAR.

    1. The excuse I’ve heard is that South Arcadia residents did not have proper representation when the 2016 FAR rules were being developed. We need people to actually CARE and do something about this.

      Delete
    2. True, South Arcadia residents were GREATLY outnumbered by developers and realtors on the Zoning Code Committee. Then disaster struck when Sho Tay and Chandler did not follow the recommendations of the Committee. They both voted to make the FAR even greater ( more square feet per square feet of lot)than the recommendations of the Committee. Harbicht is of like mind.
Getting Joyce Platt and Tom Beck elected is Arcadia's only hope for reasonable development.

    3. Many cities have FAR’s that are different from one neighborhood to the next depending on differing conditions. Sometimes a one size fits all solution does not work under all circumstances. It is a complicated issue.

    4. Only saving Arcadia puppets wanted smaller FAR, so they have it. for non-HOA area, we don't want to be regulated! so they should be different.

  21. Some of these writers are so ill-informed. Bob wants to help the city earn more tax dollars. Not allowing 2 stories is ridiculous. So many houses are 2 stories and there are no protected views in almost all cities except for Laguna and some other ones. Most people have extended families living with them and not allowing them to build what they need which is perfectly zoned for the space is ridiculous. They own the land and it’s not like they are building a tower, it’s 2 stories. When you limit how much you can build on a lot, you therefore decrease the lot value. All the residents voting to keep things small is hurting their own resale values and it’s already showed up in Arcadia. Our property values have come down already because of this! Builders are not building in certain areas because of this.

    2. First thing first, Arcadia home value was un-realistically inflated due to lack-of-regulation on how much money could flow out of China into U.S. in the past. Currently, there are restrictions on how much money each Chinese citizen could get it out of China since China government has place a cap. If I remember correctly, it is roughly around $50,000 per person per year. Suddenly, there is no unlimited funds available for Chinese citizen to purchase high valued homes in Arcadia. It forced Arcadia home values to be self-corrected to what truly should be. Therefore, the price starts to drop from excessively unsustainable & unrealistic home price market that was created by Chinese buyer. Be real. San Marino has strict rules on FAR and development. Do you see their home value drop? Stop spreading lies. McMansions are ugly!

      Delete
    3. Wow, 10:01, talk about ill-informed. Yes, you certainly are. First, NO ONE is saying 2 story homes should be banned. What MOST people want is homes that are not so massive they screw existing neighbors views and privacy. It’s called smart development. If anything, it leads to HIGHER property values, opposite of your ill-informed declaration. You’re drinking the Tay/Chandler/Harbicht Kool-Aide pal.

What’s your proof any reduction in home sizes ordinances has HURT Arcadia property values ? I’ll be waiting to hear the evidence on that. When you find nothing, how about look into the terrible effect on Arcadia property values as a result of all the empty mansions thanks to the foreign investors.

    4. Can't compare anything in Arcadia to SM. Arcadia is bigger, has lots of business/apartment/condos.... SM is strictly a single house city. Home price and school district rating are tie up together. SM schools far better than Arcadia, and that drives the price!

Homeowners follow zone and ordinances set fourth by their Planning Department.
Neighbors can not control who is hired to build a two story addition, but they can be good neighbors and work with the homeowner at the Planning Commision level.

Suitcases of money were being delivered to Arcadia realtors saying just buy a house, don't need to see it, just buy it. When Britain pulled out all would be lost to the well to do Chinese living in Hong Kong. It was a big slug of money into the housing market in Arcadia.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don't know what is your point with this post. I'm Chinese from HK and lived in the SG Valley area 45+ years. HK was returned to PPC in 1997. That is 20 years ago. And Hongkongers knew about the eventual turnover in the early 1990s. This event has nothing to do with the current housing market in Arcadia for the last 10 years.

      Delete
    2. In fact the formal negotiation between Britain and China over the turnover of HK to China started in 1982. Huge flood of money outflowed out of HK to many other countries took place 20+ years ago: United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Singapore, Taiwan, just to name a few.

      Delete
    3. Agree. It's no secret that HK was to be turnover to China in 1997. Most wealthy Hongkongers moved their money overseas way ahead of the turnover, and sent their children to study abroad and never return. The current high residential housing market price situation (last 15+ years) is mainly driven by the huge outflow of money by the Mainlanders due to prosperity from China. And it affects many cities across the US, Canada, etc.
