Sho Tay Resigns as Admin of Cultish Facebook Site "Voice of Arcadia"

On Monday The Tattler posted an article titled "Is Sho Tay Being Two-Faced On The Racism Question?" It got a pretty good response from our readership, with much of that article dealing with the confused message Arcadia's current Mayor Pro Tem was putting out about the reasons why his appointment to the largely ceremonial position of Mayor had been delayed. At least until City Hall can get a decent read on the FPPC investigation Sho Tay is currently enduring in Sacramento.

A small group of people, many of them associated with the Voice of Arcadia page on Facebook, had been quick to accuse large swathes of the population of Arcadia of racism for the crime of not venerating Mr. Tay quite as much as they do. Those so slandered include people in the media, city government, or even anyone having the temerity to identify themselves as being born in the United States. So toxic had this madness become that Sho Tay, in an article printed by the Pasadena Star News over the weekend ("Racism, campaign fraud accusations slung in Arcadia" link), felt the need to set the record straight. This was how the reporter from the Star News spelled that out:

"Tay said Friday that he has told his Asian supporters that he does not believe the criticisms he has faced are racially motivated but understands why they think that way, given that Tay is the only Asian council member in a city that is more than 59 percent Asian ... “I want the community to get along,” Tay said. “A harmonious community makes things go great — it can even make the crime rate go down when neighbors get to know each other ... I still want everyone to work together.”

This was very good news, and received positively by many of the people I had spoken to about the article. As I said on Monday (link), "In that Star News passage Sho Tay is right on the money. His statement there is moderate, fair, and worthy of commendation."

There was a fly in the ointment, however. It was discovered by a reader of this site that Sho Tay was one of a handful of admins (Facebook word for supervisors) for the source of much of the poison being leached into the community. That being Voice of Arcadia.

This appeared to the reader who had sent me the above screenshot as hypocrisy on Sho's part, and that his words of community healing in the Pasadena Star News meant very little because of that.

That was on Monday, which is when we first posted this information. By Tuesday Sho Tay apparently was no longer an admin, or even a member of, Voice of Arcadia. Here is a new screenshot where the admins of that site are listed.

As you can easily see, Sho Tay's name is no longer found there.

I guess you could call that putting your money where your mouth is, right? It seems Sho Tay had taken the criticism posted here to heart, and within a single day resigned his admin post at Voice of Arcadia.

Perhaps those individuals who are posting such terrible things about a significant portion of the population of Arcadia on that site will soon begin to realize that the person on whose behalf they claim to be speaking is no longer there with them.

  2. Will Sho Tay turn on his followers now & condemn their racism ? Unlikely. It is a conveniently timed exit. Will VOA dare to criticize his desertion online? Unlikely. How can anyone trust this changing Public Relations move ? When racism no longer suits his political ambitions, he discards it. Tomorrow, another crafted identity emerges. Today he is friend to all.

  15. Truth is not a crime. Listen to the cult spewing that old dirty houses need to come down at previous council meetings. VOA supports the letter in the Weekly that blames "old" Arcadians. VOA is against preservation of Arcadia's past. Follow the money (well documented campaign contributions). Racism claims and fearmongering about preservation and crime and now about "old" Arcadia are the veil behind which the outside interests (developers) are hiding. Developers want unrestrained development not reasonable development. All this is to seize control of our city by beholding council members with large contributions. For that much money and effort they expect favors. Well documented contributions have gone to Sho Tay, Harbicht, and Chandler. Sorry that you do not respect the truth nor free speech. Truth is not always easy.

  16. To 8:32 claiming VOA was "fighting racism" related to "speeches at Arcadia City Council" : You are a liar. On 4/24 again I heard a large out- of- order mob, again willfully ignore the Mayor's gavel to come to order. While Council talked and during speaker comments, I heard your group repeatedly undermine speakers with cries of "racism" over & over or hissing. I heard your loud booing of April Verlato. VOA gives no last name & often there is no stated I.D. as an Arcadia residents or a business name or profession. And Council allows this omission ? Everything from VOA clouded in secrecy or open violation of order & lack of respect for the opinions of other speakers. When one speaker questioned whether the disrupters were American citizens, loud crowd booing or uproar. Has VOA ever used this technique in a Chinese court ? Since VOA doesn't follow the values of a Democratic city government, it is not unusual for a speaker to question citizenship. The mob has immigrated from a place that buys & sells votes ,and has now bought two Arcadia City Councilmen.

Since VOA disrupts as a group and then stops as a group, the one APD officer present is hard pressed to find only one person to remove. Often sitting near the middle & then fanning outwards makes it hard for the Officer to get to the offender when there are so many of them. If Singoli and Sho don't get their way on 6/5, what's our option as peaceful citizens amidst an angry mob?

  19. The Arcadia City Council does not have to endure this behavior. Do they have a sergeant at arms (could be a member of the police force) and do they know Roberts Rules of Order? The city needs to print a simple explanation card in Chinese and English as to how to behave in the CC chambers. They might have to use speakers cards to get the meeting moving forward. Public communicaions are for items not on the agenda. It may very well be that many Arcadia citizens do not know these protocols. If it can be determined that someone is encouraging this behavior that person could be called to the podium first and state the reason for the groups appearance at that night's meeting and ask him/her to advise the group on how to approach the podium and how to keep silent at their seats. You need to state your name at the podium but you do not have to give your address. The City Council can determine the amount of time they want to give to each speaker (3 minutes usual unless you are speaking for a group). Announce the time limit and have a staff person monitor the time and give the mayor a 30 second sign so the mayor can ask the speaker to conclude comments in 30 seconds.)
