Sierra Madre VFW Memorial Day Ceremony Tomorrow

They used to send me a press release about this event to post here every year, which I was always very honored and pleased to do. But I haven't been receiving any such information from them lately. I assume it's because I have published criticism of a president who clearly collaborated with a nasty foreign power to get himself elected.

Personally I would think that any functioning patriot would be appalled at so compromised an individual somehow ascending to the position of Commander In Chief of our military. And a five time Viet Nam era draft dodger, no less. I mean, what is there to like about this guy

Besides, isn't that what our service men and women fought and died to defend? The freedom to speak your beliefs and opinions in as forthright and fearless a manner as possible? That's pretty much where I stand. By using your freedoms you honor those who sacrificed everything to protect them.

However, the importance of this event by far transcends any such local political disagreement over press release distribution, and you really do need to go. It is very important that you do.

The VFW still hasn't posted the identity of this year's speaker yet. They have certainly had some very interesting and controversial ones there over the last few years.

As is their unalienable right.

  1. The present Commander In Chief represents nothing I can stand for. #45 is tearing this country apart and has pissed of our allies all over the world. The fact that this person won presidency with help from our long time enemy boggles my mind. I can only see more Veterans dying for his stupidity and who know what long term consequences America will have because of him.

  2. That draft dodger is dividing our country, may he burn in hell.

  3. "There will be a color guard honoring those service members who died at the event."

That sentence needs to be restructured. As far as I know no service member has ever died at this event.

    2. That was the first thing that jumped out at me - yikes! I don't want to go if I'm in danger of dying at the event! Of course, these days, if you attend or teach at a school, you are in danger of dying on a school day.

  7. POTUS #45, is indeed unique among the group of those that have served this country in the past forty odd years, unlike his predecessors he does indeed keep his campaign promises.

  8. Am watching Meet the Press. Is POTUS looking even more bizarre than usual? I'm so angry at Jeff Flake, because he announced he wouldn't run for reelection, then spoke out against Trump and the spineless Congress. If he were running again, he might be able to get some others to speak out and stand up to the NRA, so that more kids won't get shot.

    1. You need to call Mitch McConnell.

Both sides confirm Trump’s latest attempt to shut down investigation failed - Even Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell says the special counsel's investigation should continue.

In an interview with NPR, McConnell said that nothing in the briefing had changed his mind.

“The two investigations going on that I think will give us the answers to the questions that you raise — the IG [Inspector General] investigation in the Justice Department and the Mueller investigation,” McConnell said. “I support both of them, and I don’t really have anything to add to this subject based upon the Gang of 8 briefing that we had today, which was classified.”

This concept would be clearly understood by them and constantly reinforced by FoxNews if Obama had been under investigation and incessantly whining like an 8 year old about how unfair it is.

  10. From Snopes:

Trump received his fourth and final college deferment on 16 January 1968. After graduating from Wharton, he was reclassified 1-A on 9 July 1968. Trump underwent an Armed Forces physical examination (with a result listed only as “DISQ”) on 19 September 1968 and was reclassified 1-Y (qualified for service only in time of war or national emergency) on 15 October 1968.

According to a statement from the Trump campaign, the 1-Y classification stemmed from Trump’s having bone spurs in both heels.

Despite the supposedly “short-term” nature of Trump’s disqualifying physical condition, on 17 February 1972 he was reclassified 4-F (not qualified for military service), presumably due to the abolishment of the 1-Y classification the previous year.

  12. I truly believe that 20 years from now, when all these collaborators are dead or dying, after all the trials, the memoirs, the books, and the deathbed confessions, have all come out, that we are gonna learn that we came alot closer to losing our democracy than we ever even dreamed was possible. This is terrifying.

Remember that no democracy has lasted more than 300 years......not one.

    1. I think it is important to remember that there has never been a democracy quite like this one in history before. It is bigger, both in land mass and population, than any before it. It is more technologically advanced. Its people are better educated (despite what we may believe). And it was birthed in rebellion against tyranny. These are important factors to consider before terrifying yourself (and/or others!) with dark, dire speculations about our fate. Hang in there!

Yes, 8:49, I agree completely, without vigilance our Constitution and freedom of speech is at risk. #45 has made Colin Kapernick and the NFL kneeling during the National Anthem a big deal. It is not disrespecting our country. Pulleeze...how many of you have gotten out of the beer line at a ball game to sing the Star Spangled Banner when it was being played? He engaged in combat and received shrapnel wounds on two occasions. He was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for "heroic achievement." He was injured a third time from an explosion before returning home.

Meanwhile, Cadet Bone Spurs was back in the US stiffing employees and contractors and grabbing pu**y.

Tell us 9:54: Was the US Military lying and committing fraud when it awarded Kerry the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and Purple Hearts? Why do you hate the US Military?

This is a group that is quickly becoming extinct due to age and a lack of interest of the younger generation. Instead of Trump bashing I would suggest others help these aging veterans. I saw an eighty seven year old vet and his
