Sho Tay Flips: City of Arcadia on edge

Turn your frown upside down
After having publicly agreed to confess to the errors of his ways tonight, then graciously accept the honorary position of Mayor of Arcadia, and in the process helping to heal the community, Sho Tay has now completely flipped on his fellow councilmembers. Even his big house honcho Roger Chandler.

In a series of shocking and frankly ugly statements, delivered hot in a Pasadena Star News article titled "Arcadia to revisit controversial delayed mayoral appointment" (link), the sitting Mayor Pro Tem of Arcadia slammed home a message that can only be described as wildly irresponsible and even incendiary.

Tay said he has no intention of admitting guilt to any accusations of lying. He added that because he represents Arcadia’s Chinese community, him admitting to being a liar would mean letting 60 percent of the community be characterized as liars.

“Before, we used to try to tell everyone we’re the same,” Tay said. “Now they’re trying to say we’re not the same — you guys are Asian — and that’s the wrong message to send out.”

Tay had previously said he did not believe race was involved in the decision not to make him mayor, but he said the ongoing conflict has led him to believe race is indeed involved.

Not exactly the kinds of things a responsible and civic minded elected official should be saying, especially in a city already on the extreme edge of its frayed nerves. Due at least in part to some of the troubling and mendacious things Sho himself had already said about his fellow elected officials during the election.

The Developer Party is playing a dangerous game of brinksmanship here. How this is going to play out is anybody's guess.

I just hope they lay on some extra security at tonight's City Council meeting. It could get a little dodgy in there.

  1. With a flip flop mind like he has demonstrated sounds like no one you would want running a council meeting let alone the city. Send him to a psychiatrist for a mental stability test, he may not be fit to serve and could be a danger not only to himself but to the community.

    1. I supposed Sho will be sitting upside down at tonight's meeting. Or maybe he will flip back before then. Maybe his vision for Arcadia is improved by being inverted.
He is delusional if he thinks he represents a majority of Arcadians.

  3. Give me a break! Stop hijack the 60 percent of the Asian with you. Why doesn't he holding a specially Mayor election. See if he can get his 60 percent of the vote in town to honorably become the Mayor. At that time, I would be paying him my fully respect and honor him completely.

  4. Two months ago, when most of the Asians and the Caucasians asked to unite the community and moved on, April filed FPPC against Sho Tay without any standable facts, all lies, which delayed two months of Arcadia city business.

Last week, when the council called for building the team, Tom and April wrote these two letters full of rumors /lies to the community, they even wrote the fake apology letters to the community in Sho's place, such unimaginable liers without any limitations, it is the intolerable insult to the whole community, especially Asians.

Now we don't trust any of those any more. We will see Tom's and April's appologies for their lies and cheating to all of races, especially to the senior Caucasians here in Arcadia.

We also want to see the results of FPPC investigations against April and Tom and district attorneys and other legal agencies investigations on their wrongful doings related with the criminal cases filed.

We are tired of these dishonesty and illegal activities. Our prior desire is to bring the justice here in Arcadia once and for all.

    1. So let me ask you this, 7:12. What exactly is Sho Tay's vision for Arcadia going forward? What does he plan on accomplishing during his tenure as mayor? Or is it going to be this 24/7 crazy stuff that you're putting down?

      Delete
    2. Who is the "we" you are talking about, 7:12? By my count it is a very small group of people. If you were speaking for as many people as you claim, Bob Harbicht would have been elected. He wasn't.

    8. 7:42 please ask Sho Tay your questions directly. Tell him what you would expect from his leadership. He is a leader of the community, not a dictator.

We believe he would answer you when you do it professionally and you show your desire to communicate with him politely and equally. That is a basic requirement for any productive communication, nothing special from him.

Sho is doing volunteer job for all of us, we need show our respect at least.

If you disagree with him, please explain about what your real problems are, he is a true problem solver and he has been a very calm and patient helpful person.

Thanks for your care about what we are trying to do. We hope you will continue to be part of it in building a better community.

We will push what we have wished, especially justice, fairness, getting rid of racism which has lasted for 400+ years in this great area, creating balanced conserved protected eco environment and efficient water preservation system with reasonable development
under measurable monitoring system, and most importantly creating unified consistent clear resolutions which benefit all residents, leaving no room for bullies who appeared during last two years or getting rid of or minimizing any current lawsuits that cost the huge amount of tax payers money from the city government.

7:58 we, 19K voters, 2/3 of families in Arcadia. If we rewind and do an election now, Tom might not get even 300 votes, who wants to support a criminal figure?

9:49 we are very optimistic about what we have been doing. We have been on the right track. Please stop any racism in public places or media, stop your effort attacking any individuals who are working hard toward overall good of the community.

Together, we protect equality and human rights to all ages and all races.

We will build healthy pleasant environment successfully.

    12. 11:34 please go to the city and ask for the record of all filings and complaints about Tom.

11:49 Yes, I speak everything from my heart.

I am Sorry,I don't understand what you are talking about. I started involving this political event half year ago for a reasonable and lawful districting against Gerrymandering and have no clue what happened before that, unless you point back the date of history that I can look at the city vedio and do some research. Certainly we don't see what you said during last nine months period.

Beyond these, people are constantly improving themselves over the time, especially like Sho, he has been driven over night to Sacramento for his government law training class after Tuesday city council meetings, while other Council members didn't bother for it. That means he took his classes without sleeping at all.

So think about ourselves on what we have been doing, and think about Sho's effort, we need look forward to a brighter future.

We only support the candidates who have been proven contributors to the society, to name a few possible candidates for your easy understanding, like Mr. John Crawford, Jean, Ms. Laurie Thompson, etc, those who are reasonable persons and have true hearts, and wills, and really put it into actions and spend time to study and make things better.

For your last point, I am not sure if there is any communication error since I don't know where your talk was from. Please understand Sho is an immigrant and so am I. English might be a barrier some time. Please forgive those if there is any difficulties to make their expressions / words accurate or precise. We would really appreciate giving us a warm feeling of being treated as part of the big Arcadia family.

Please also remember Sho was voted into office by caucasians, not by Chinese. Chinese didn't vote back in 2014.

According to our estimation, Sho might get 60 to 80% of Asian voters support, not all of Asians for sure, may be 80% of Caucasians support, about 67% of overall Arcadian voters support him. It should be ~80% of all residents support him since many residents are new immigrants.

Mr. Tay, it’s not about the color of your skin, it’s about the content of your character that is being challenged.

If you are voted in as mayor this evening, here are my expectations:

You will need to understand that you serve “we, the people”…..not the other way around.

If you are really against racism then I want to see that you are committed to ALL the people in our community, that means African American, Hispanic, Seniors, Women, Men, Kids, Asians, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Pacific Islanders, Muslim, Indian, Mixed races, Caucasians, Renters, Home owners, 5th generation Arcadians, Homeless etc.

THEY ALL MATTER and I want to see you reaching out to all of them making the effort to understand their needs.
I want you to understand what an Olive Branch is.

I expect you to focus on unity, not 60%.

    2. 11:30 I couldn't speak for Sho on this item. But according to my observations, Sho is a very caring person, passing our standard at least, if not above.

Personally, passing down generations by generations, my family care about any body, especially the homeless, the sick, the poor, the prisoners, and even farm animals we saw, etc.

For an example, my grandfather was a local governor of a few cities before 1949 Chinese libration. His and his family's lives were saved by those homeless who were later in power and 100% of his original constituents and he lived to the year of 2005 peacefully and happily in an environment with so much intensive waves of political battles during the years of 1949 - 1978 including Chinese cultural revolution which you might have known, countless people died of political events. Most of innocent people died for no reasons at all. But we were saved by all of the people without an enemy. Moles law didn't apply to us in this case for once. With so many things could be wrong, but nothing went wrong.

My parents saved thousands of villagers' lives and their farm animals by curing them any diseases they might have. People sent us away and cried in endless lines when we moved out.

Another example, fifteen years ago, my husband tried to save some gas by walking to the post office, he saw a released prisoner sitting on the curb in the early morning without any food. So he drove him to the train station and bought him a ticket and gave him additional $40 for his basic need.

Many times, my husband doesn't eat dinner during his travel. He might purchase a few pieces of over burnt sweat potatoes, because nobody want those. He will pay more than the asking prices to the seller in order for them to have money to unite with their families early.

The last example I would like to share with you is, every time there is a traffic accident my son sees, he will get out and save the people sick or enjured on the road and guide the traffic. It is very dangerous especially when it is getting dark with black cars involved in accidents, their lights in all unfavorable directions which is hard to see for other cars and people drive in the peak hours going home. But his bravesness, strength and skills has saved many lives.

There are countless examples of what we have been doing. That defines who we are. Certainly, there are many things that we have rooms to improve and we learn more and more as time goes by.

So we do have a heart to appreciate any effort people are struggling to make. We understand lives are not easy for all of us and together we will make it as promising as possible.

Taiwan government would not allow him to leave if he had studied high school in Taiwan. I know him much better than you. People don't need to be Chinese but learned to act like communist leader's behavior.
When he had stroke, I was the one bring him back and encourage him to continue to run for city council. So, if you don't know enough about his past, don't make a fool of yourself.
I don't have time to baby sit you.

  32. Tonight when the City Clerk calls for the election of Mayor a majority of the council should just refuse to approve the motion and therefore no election will take place. According to the Charter an election by the City Council for Mayor can only take place if ordered by a majority of the Council. By refusing to approve the clerk's call for an election they don't have to vote for or against anyone. No election takes place and the current Mayor continues to serve with no further action (unless he resigns then the Mayor Pro Tem takes office.) So that is the solution...vote NO on an election, then Amundsen resigns and Sho becomes Mayor. That way no one ever voted for that jackass to be Mayor...it happens by default.

  58. In Tay's first speech after becoming mayor...
-insult Amundsen on his blood pressure
-insult Beck on the size of his house
-said he would reach out to the Chinese Association to create more events....the idea should be to have Arcadia events to bring both groups together
-The assumption that it is Caucasian population that needs to learn the culture....Learning goes both ways Tay.

So much for his idea of "One Arcadia"
