Trump's trade war with China is finally here -- and it won't be pretty, analysts say

Mod: Two stories that somehow do not quite agree.

Trump's trade war with China is finally here -- and it won't be pretty, analysts say (Washington Post link): Some said the day would never come, that it was all a bluff. But as the Independence Day fireworks cool in Washington, the eve of the trade war has arrived in China’s capital, where government leaders keep reminding people: We did not start this, but we will fight back.

President Trump’s first tariffs are scheduled to hit $34 billion of Chinese imports on Friday, and Beijing plans to swiftly respond with levies on an equal amount of goods. Border officers here could receive the order as early as midnight to slap new taxes on hundreds of American products, including pork, poultry, soybeans and corn.

And so would begin an unprecedented commerce battle between the world’s two largest economies — a conflict analysts fear could rattle markets, cripple trade and undermine ties between the United States and China at a time when the administration seeks Beijing’s cooperation on North Korea.

As the global business community watches the clock, China is moving to pin the fallout on Trump, framing the United States as a bully the Asian nation is forced to confront. A state media editorial this week called America’s “dictatorial bent” a global threat, while officials said China will “absolutely not” take the first swing.

Amid Tariffs, Chinese Factory Starts Production On Trump Campaign Flags (Talking Points Memo link): As President Donald Trump levies tariffs and threats against China for “stealing American jobs,” a Chinese factory says it’s been hired to manufacture flags for Trump’s 2020 campaign, according to a Tuesday episode of NPR’s “Indicator” podcast. Factory owner Li Jiang told NPR that his workers are producing hundreds of thousands of blue and white Trump flags similar to those they manufactured for his 2016 campaign.

Per NPR, the Trump campaign ordered so many more flags than the Clinton campaign in 2016 that Chinese locals near the factory joked that they knew the outcome of the election before anyone.

Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., the committee organizing Trump’s reelection run, has publicly committed to buying American, saying that “we put America First and take great pride in selling 100% Made in the USA products to our supporters throughout the country.” It is unclear if the committee was the body that entered into the contract with the Chinese factory.

    1. Russian origins of "#walk away movement."

Here's how Russia is trying to divide the Democratic Party - Conservative and Russian media outlets — amplified by sketchy Twitter accounts — are pushing a social media campaign intended to drive Democratic voters away from the party.

A surge of tweets with the hashtag #WalkAway began June 23 after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave a Virginia restaurant the night before, and the campaign took off after Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) called for the public shaming of Trump administration officials, reported the blogger Caroline O. for Medium.

The remarkable similar tweets claimed to be from former Democrats who got fed up with the “hate” and “intolerance” of “the left,” and piggybacked off the “civility” debate going on at the time on opinion pages and cable news shows.

Brandon Straka officially started the “#WalkAway Campaign” in May to encourage Democrats to abandon their party, but the hashtag got an artificial boost into the public sphere by automated Twitter accounts identified as linked to Russian influence operations.

He's trying to give away anything from this country to get sweetheart development deals for himself and his family. Total corruption on a larger scale then this country has ever seen , and from its leader. It will be exposed and he will pay , especially from his conspiring with putin to undermine the last election. Its catching up to him, and is desperate now to undermine the investigation any way he can. Corruption running wild. How long before we find out he has gotten a NK deal and a russian deal for development in their countries by trading away national security policies and issues.

  23. Trump is the swamp:

At the time of his resignation, Pruitt was facing at least 18 federal investigations for his conduct. That includes renting a Capitol Hill condo at well below market rates with clear links to a gas industry lobbying firm; forcing out EPA officials who questioned his “unusually large spending” habits; allegedly forcing aides to find his wife a job with a minimum $200,000 salary; and, well, the list goes on and on.
