Trump's family is at war and he is throwing Don Jr. under the bus to save his own ass

Mod: Bits and pieces picked up from around the Internet.

Subtext of his morning Tweet about the Trump Tower meeting: Don Jr. is guilty and I didn't know anything about it.

In other words: Lock up my son, not me - I mean I am so innocent that when Jr. later told me, I wasn't even aware he did anything illegal. This follows family division, seen as disloyalty, in the past few days when Ivanka Trump contradicted 45 on immigration and the media, and Melania Trump took a different position on LeBron James.

The whole family all knows that the old guy is sick in the head. They undermine his delusions and now he is mad at them all. As he is with the rest of the world.

Here Trump admits that they did it, even though they've lied about it in the past. His only concern is that he doesn't want to appear to be "worried" about it. Or have anyone think that he was responsible. Here, take my son.

His adding that "it's not a crime" doesn't legalize the activity.

Finally - the President tells a partial truth. This contradicts the original statement released by the White House - which Donald himself helped compose - that the meeting was about 'adoptions'. The walls are closing in on Donald Trump and his traitorous progeny.

Here is how Ted Lieu puts it:

It would appear that the President of the United States has just admitted that an impeachable offense has been committed. Or at least his son did it, and without his knowledge.

Junior just got thrown under the bus by his panicking papa. Father of the year.

The only question left is "Did Trump know about the meeting beforehand?"

My money says he knew.

Mod: More on this theme.

Trump and His Attorney Change Story on Trump Tower Meeting (Daily Beast link): Both President Trump and his lawyer’s version of events surrounding the highly scrutinized 2016 Trump Tower meeting took a drastic change on Sunday.

The meeting between Trump’s top aides and a Kremlin-linked lawyer, which has reportedly been at the center of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, was initially presented by Trump’s team as an innocuous discussion on adoptions of Russian children.

In a statement explaining the motives of the meeting later reported to have been dictated by Trump himself, Donald Trump Jr. said the purpose of the gathering was to discuss “a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago.”

On Sunday, however, the president admitted for the first time, on Twitter of all places, that the meeting was held to “get information on an opponent.” Trump’s attorney, Jay Sekulow, also backtracked on his earlier statements regarding the meeting.

In an interview on ABC News’ This Week, Sekulow said his initial claim that the president was not involved in penning Trump Jr.’s statement on the meeting was wrong.

“I had bad information at that time and made a mistake in my statement ... Over time facts develop,” he said.

A historic Trump tell-all (Axios link): The President of the United States admitted, on the record, that he misled the American people about the infamous Russia meeting in Trump Tower.

The big picture: It’s one of the most striking public reversals in modern presidential history, even though he made a similar point before, and even though it was done casually via an early morning tweet. It involves Russia, Air Force One, a presidential son, shady operatives, allegations of collusion and a federal probe — all in one.

Trump tweeted: "Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!"

This is the same president who dictated a statement to the media saying the meeting was about primarily about the adoption of Russian children, not campaign dirt offered by shady Russians with connections to Putin.

Why it matters: It’s a striking acknowledgment about a central moment in an international debate over international collusion — and a central moment being scrubbed for illegalities by special counsel Bob Mueller.

Mod: The case is pretty much made. And Donald Trump himself confirmed it. All that is left now is for government prosecutors to roll out the case and set up the perp walk.

Sacha Baron Cohen's ritual humiliation of prominent Republicans has once again borne fruit — and this time it's in the form of Joe Arpaio.

In the latest episode of Baron Cohen's satirical sensation "Who is America?" the actor posed as a Finnish YouTuber called OMGWhizzBoyOMG (real name: Ladislas Kekkonen) who invites the self-styled "toughest sheriff in America" on his show.

In reference to an unverified claim in the explosive Trump dossier , Baron Cohen asked Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff who is a close ally of President Donald Trump , whether the president might have had a golden shower , to which the sheriff replied: "Wouldn't surprise me."

Baron Cohen then asked the sheriff: "If Donald Trump calls you up after this and says, 'Sheriff Joe, I want to offer you an amazing blow job,' would you say yes?"

White House shuts down press availability and says Trump won’t leave White House after tweet admits collusion

The White House announced on Monday that President Donald Trump would not be leaving the White House and would not take any questions after he admitted on Twitter that his son may have colluded with Russians during the 2016 campaign.

In a tweet over the weekend, Trump reversed course on his explanation of 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower. The president had originally claimed that the meeting had been about adoptions. But in his Sunday tweet, Trump admitted that the purpose of the meeting had been to get damaging information about Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also had not scheduled a Monday briefing by the time of publication.

  17. Is “QAnon” — the self-purported government insider who is revealing President Donald Trump’s supposed plans to blow the lid off of a global pedophile ring — actually just an elaborate prank being played on gullible Trump supporters?

BuzzFeed News reporter Ryan Broderick has done a good deal of detective work and has put together some compelling evidence that QAnon may have been created by left-wing pranksters as part of a joke conspiracy theory that happened to succeed beyond their wildest expectations.

In particular, Broderick points out that the QAnon conspiracy theory bears some striking similarities to the plot of a novel called “Q” that was written by a group of Italian leftists going under the name of “Luther Blissett” back in the late 1990s.

In fact, the similarities between the two are so strong that three of the authors of the book — Roberto Bui, Giovanni Cattabriga and Federico Guglielmi — tell Broderick that they would not be surprised if someone used their book as the inspiration for the QAnon conspiracy.

  25. New York sues Trump administration over program for 'predatory employers'

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York on Monday filed a lawsuit seeking to compel the Trump administration to turn over more information about a pilot program allowing employers to resolve violations of federal overtime and minimum wage laws without penalties.

According to the lawsuit, filed against the U.S. Department of Labor by New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood in Manhattan federal court, the department had failed to respond to a request for more information submitted in April under the federal freedom of information law.

In a statement, Underwood called the administration’s pilot program “nothing more than a get-out-of-jail-free card for predatory employers.”

“New York workers have a right to know why the Secretary of Labor decided to let employers off the hook when they don’t pay their workers,” she said.

At this point in their respective presidencies Trump and Obama are even. Numbers that neither should ever brag about.
