'No accident' Brett Kavanaugh's female law clerks 'looked like models', Yale professor told students

Mod: Yet another inconvenience to the Kavanaugh nomination to the Supreme Court has emerged.

'No accident' Brett Kavanaugh's female law clerks 'looked like models', Yale professor told students (The Guardian link): A top professor at Yale Law School who strongly endorsed supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as a “mentor to women” privately told a group of law students last year that it was “not an accident” that Kavanaugh’s female law clerks all “looked like models” and would provide advice to students about their physical appearance if they wanted to work for him, the Guardian has learned.

Amy Chua, a Yale professor who wrote a bestselling book on parenting called Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, was known for instructing female law students who were preparing for interviews with Kavanaugh on ways they could dress to exude a “model-like” femininity to help them win a post in Kavanaugh’s chambers, according to sources.

Kavanaugh is facing intense scrutiny in Washington following an allegation made by Christine Blasey Ford that he forcibly held her down and groped her while they were in high school. He has denied the allegation. The accusation has mired Kavanaugh’s confirmation in controversy, drawing parallels to allegations of sexual harassment against Justice Clarence Thomas by Anita Hill in the 1990s.

Yale provided Kavanaugh with many of the judge’s clerks over the years, and Chua played an outsized role in vetting the clerks who worked for him. But the process made some students deeply uncomfortable.

One source said that in at least one case, a law student was so put off by Chua’s advice about how she needed to look, and its implications, that she decided not to pursue a clerkship with Kavanaugh, a powerful member of the judiciary who had a formal role in vetting clerks who served in the US supreme court.

In one case, Jed Rubenfeld, also an influential professor at Yale and who is married to Chua, told a prospective clerk that Kavanaugh liked a certain “look”.

“He told me, ‘You should know that Judge Kavanaugh hires women with a certain look,’” one woman told the Guardian. “He did not say what the look was and I did not ask.”

Sources who spoke to the Guardian about their experiences with Chua and Rubenfeld would only speak under the condition of anonymity because they feared retribution and damage to their future careers. Some elements of this story were first published by the Huffington Post.

Chua advised the same student Rubenfeld spoke to that she ought to dress in an “outgoing” way for her interview with Kavanaugh, and that the student should send Chua pictures of herself in different outfits before going to interview. The student did not send the photos.

  5. All things being equal, the more attractive person gets the job. That’s just life. What’s wrong being offered advice about appearance for a job interview? Tall, good weight proportions, attractive appearance will usually win over short, over weight, unkempt appearance.

    1. There may be some statistical truth to that, but, I don't want a clown that gets promoted based on that and surrounds himself with that to make decisions for me. Remember the thing they said was the three most important words you could learn in college...? "Think for yourself". That's not "dress for others so you might get promoted and feel worthy".

  9. Due diligence. One of Justice Scalia's law clerks has submitted information to the pannel on information reguarding Kavanaugh and Blasey Ford.
Because Mrs. Ford cannot recall the house, only the area of the location were the alleged groping took place, gave some thought as to various other questions.
The law clerk found that another student that looks identically like Kavanaugh and attended school in the same year, lived in the area described by Ford and in a house that matches her description.
Mistaken identify in Ford's recollections. The boys name is also similar to Kavanaugh.
All will be released to the public from the hearings.

    1. She used her own email address just like Republican Secretary of State Colin Powell and Republican Secretary of State Condi Rice. In fact, one or both of them advised Hillary to do so.

And now Trump administration officials routinely use their personal email and messaging accounts for confidential government business.

Of course, they claim Trump doesn't use email--that's because he spills American secrets directly to Putin and directly to Putin's spies, even in the Oval Office. But you don't have a problem with that, do you Comrade?

      Delete
    2. What conspiracy site did you get that off of about Clinton ? Oh, geez. tRump uses an old unsecured black berry, besides the private emails Ivanka & Jared used for government business. You know how they found out about HIllary's server in the first place ? Because of emails she was exchanging with a US Ambassador off that address. They couldn't charge her on it because yeah, she could have been more careful with some of the info., but it didn't say it was classified. Actually for conspiracy nuts Clinton should have waited to get elected to the Oval office before giving secrets away like tRump did when he blabbed to the Russians in the oval office (and probably during his private only Putin fests no one but the translators and Putti and Don know about, even if the translator was there the whole time, who Knows if she was?), Intel info. without asking its'source providers permission (the Israelis) if he could (because then they would have just given it to the Russians in the first place too, which they hadn't). Oh and yeah you can't just take a few "photos" inside a ship because of security and what is being photographed so no it isn't just a "few photos" like he took one next to his car or on the dock next to nothing of a sensitive nature- D'UH. Perfect excuse for spying- I was just taking a few photos of the ship I'm on etc. D'UH. They need to bug tRump, literally.

Plus, the stolen emails and he knew they were stolen, there was no other way they could of had it etc. from that guy who was later fired on it but it didn't seem to bother Bratt which tells me enough about his "integrity" or lack of it(not a typo either, lol).

  15. Idiot Trump supporters like 7:18/7:22 haven't read the playbook.

Release all FISA docs? Fool, the idea is for Trump to release only those docs that can be spun in his favor. Releasing all will show conclusively that it's not a witch hunt.

The only people who benefit from the release of all FISA docs are people like Putin, who can then "take care" of the sources of the intelligence.

So tell the "truths." Which are you, 7:18/7:22: Idiot, fool, Russian, traitor, or some combination?

    1. Exactly- tRump isn't releasing the ones that show him up. 1. Since he was asked before he had to "wash " his hair unlike her. I'd like to see him take a poly on it like she did and have the investigation (Reagan and HW Bush had them done on their picks when allegations surfaced but not an assault one, though Thomas was a harasser). Lying to the FBI is a crime and Dr. Ford could get into trouble too but she wants the investigation, unlike Bratt and his promoters. Pussy grabber in chief's opinion means nothing since he has allegations about himself he should answer about too.

  29. TRUMP ADMITS 'VERY GOOD' U.S. ALLIES 'HAVE A PROBLEM' WITH HIM RELEASING SECRET RUSSIA INVESTIGATION

President Donald Trump revealed he received phone calls from two U.S. allies expressing concerns over his instruction to the Justice Department to declassify, redact and release secret documents relating to the Russia investigation.

Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump in an interview at his Thursday rally in Las Vegas when those documents would be released.

“We’re moving along, we’re working along,” Trump said. “We’re also dealing with foreign countries that do have a problem. I must tell you, I got called today from two very good allies saying, Please can we talk. So it’s not as simple as all that. And we do have to respect their wishes. But it’ll all come out.”

The president did not reveal who the allies were, but they are likely nations that share intelligence with the U.S. and fear that sensitive information handed over in confidence will be made public, potentially putting their own agents at risk.
