‘People actually laughed at a president’: At U.N. speech, Trump suffers the fate he always feared

Video link here

Mod: Here in the United States Trump only speaks to specially hand selected audiences of his cultish followers. But you cannot do that at the United Nations. And when he attempted to make one of his standard MAGA speeches before the assembled leaders of the world? It got the response it deserved.

‘People actually laughed at a president’: At U.N. speech, Trump suffers the fate he always feared (The Washington Post link): President Trump has long argued that the United States has been taken advantage of by other nations — a “laughing stock to the entire World,” he said on Twitter in 2014 — and his political rise was based on the premise that he had the strength and resolve to change that.

But at the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump got a comeuppance on the world’s biggest stage. Delivering a speech that aimed to establish U.S. “sovereignty” over the whims and needs of other nations, the president’s triumphant moment was marred in the first minute when he was met by laughter — at his expense.

The embarrassing exchange came when Trump boasted that his administration had accomplished more over two years than “almost any administration” in American history, eliciting audible guffaws in the cavernous chamber hall.

The president appeared startled. “Didn’t expect that reaction,” he said, “but that’s okay.” Members of the audience chuckled again — perhaps this time in sympathy.

Trump continued his address, which lasted an additional 34 minutes, but the moment marked a pointed rejoinder from the international community to a president who has delighted in poking traditional U.S. allies and partners in the eye on trade, security alliances and general diplomatic bonhomie.

“He has always been obsessed that people are laughing at the president. From the mid-’80s, he’s said: ‘The world is laughing at us. They think we’re fools,’ ” said Thomas Wright, a Europe analyst at the Brookings Institution.

“It’s never been true, but he’s said it about every president. It’s the first time I’m aware of that people actually laughed at a president. I think it is going to drive him absolutely crazy. It will play to every insecurity he has.”

  1. I wonder what his tweet will be...maybe about firing Mueller, to take the heat off the international community laughing at him.

  2. You have to admire Trump's courage. He has always said that the whole world is laughing at us. He went to the United nations to prove it.

  3. Well, that makes it a special memory for the present generation. Sort of like listening to your grandparents talk about the first time they ever saw an airplane.

  4. Only a Progressive fool would consider the United Nations "the Entire World".
The laughter was from nervousness knowing that President Trump cannot be hoodwinked by the represented Do Nothing members of the UN.
Many were thinking, is he going to pull the US out completely?
How will we pay for our expensive lunches and dinners parties?
The United Nations are a waste of time and expense, the building alone would serve better being put to a good use, it sits on valuable land, move the United Nations to Switzerland and continue to save this country money.

In other words, people like the Russian Asset in the White House.

  14. It was pathetic because he is pathetic. Witness the languid way in which he reads his teleprompter and then saunders from one to the other as if he had any real skill in public speaking. He speech writer is a dud, too. The laugher began as a modest "can you believe this fool" to a half throated laugh with some clapping. Hardly applause. You would have to see more camera shots of the assembled to catch their expressions as they caught the English translations and tried to make sense of the man standing there representing the United States. Pathetic fool.

  17. Ironic that for all the times this man said the world was laughing at us, when he was face-to-face with the world, they laughed in HIS face. He's a joke and an embarrassment to our country.

He doesn't even understand basic economics! We have a $1 trillion deficit and he's spending $12 billion to pay farmers back for destroying their livelihoods with these tariffs that are making them pay more for their tractors and get less for their produce!

Meanwhile he's transferring millions from FEMA to ICE - he'd rather lock up asylum seekers than save Americans devastated by hurricanes! That's what a hateful and spiteful president we have! He'd go so far as to deny Americans aid to save us from....immigrants who want to take our aid money? Spending billions to prevent non-white immigrants we don't like from getting millions - when they're fleeing violence we caused by deporting tens of thousands of hardened gang members to countries with the population of LA county. We'd rather deport women fleeing this to be raped and killed (but not before we steal their children first and then forget where we put them!)

This is the insanity our racism in this country has brought us to. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

After SIX FBI INVESTIGATIONS on Mr. Kavanaugh for security clearance the DEMS request ONE more!
The only real question here is why would any parent spend their money on YALE if this is the type of investments and returns they can expect with their kid thirty five years after graduation? Mr Kavanaugh is not a party animal like it appears that these lapse in memories women are.
The disturbing and disgusting Dems are now attempting to match up Mr. Kavanaugh's 1982 calendar "Beach Week" that has been submitted to the pannel weeks before, with new accusations from a last minute accuser ridiculously pointing to "Beach Week". How convenient of her to remember one day before the hearings.

  25. I remember a beer garden at a fair in Maine in 2002 where you could not put your drink down anywhere without a security person telling you if you did not have complete control of the mug (promotional plastic keepsake) you were to turn it upside down. Walking along, leaving and entering, mugs upside down unless you were actively drinking from it and had complete control. This was the height of the date rape drugging in bars and at parties. Witness what the grown women who stepped forward with their stories against Bill Crosby. Now this smuck up for a life-time appointment. Life time? That should be rolled back to the life expectancy in 1776 as the retirement age for a Supreme Court Justice.

  29. Facts come in handy 9:32 when asking for a response to your posting.
Some members of the United Nations were genuinely interested and surprised at the honest and earnest delivery given by President Trump, refreshingly honest and not the usual talking points being regurgitated from the Leader of the Free World, like so many before him.
The lessening of regulations and terriffs are the reasons why farmers are being subsidized, usually the subsidies are paid out for less crop productions. This pay out is to offset farming equipment expenditures during this political game of wait and see who will respect the US.
Yes, keep ICE strong, FEMA is fine. When any state has elected a fiscally responsible Governor then the FEMA dollars are not in such demand after natural disasters.
Creating more jobs keeping interests low and not raising them like the Feds just did because the economy is doing so well; this is what is rebuilding America.
Your point of deporting violent illegal immigrants back to their own country does not deserve a response.
    Racism? Your argument falls flat.

“You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.“
