Ronald Reagan’s Daughter Patti Davis Reveals She Didn’t Disclose Sex Assault For Decades

Mod: After Trump's rather unhinged attack on Christine Blasey Ford this week, Ronald Reagan's daughter Patti Davis stepped up to defend her. Here is the Huffington Post's account of what she had to say.

Reagan’s Daughter Patti Davis Reveals She Didn’t Disclose Sex Assault For Decades (Huffington Post link): Ronald Reagan’s daughter was raped 40 years ago. But she didn’t speak of it for several years, Patti Davis revealed in a powerful Washington Post op-ed Friday.

“I never told anyone for decades — not a friend, not a boyfriend, not a therapist, not my husband when I got married years later,” noted Davis, an author. Nor did she remember some important details of the attack.

Both situations are common for survivors of assault, according to experts.

Davis revealed her experience in support of Christine Blasey Ford, the California psychology professor who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teens.

Davis’ article appeared while Twitter messages from sexual assault survivors flooded #WhyIDidntReport in response to President Donald Trump’s dismissive comments about Blasey’s experience and his assumptions about the ease of reporting sexual assault.

“If the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents,” Trump tweeted Friday. He also said he wanted to know the “date, time and place.”

In Davis’ case, the attack occurred when she met with a music executive in his office about songs she had written. “He was ... on top of me — so quickly — with his hands under my skirt and his mouth on mine, that I froze,” she recalled. “I lay there as he pushed himself inside me.”

She no longer remembers what month it was, if the executive’s assistant was outside the door, what her attacker said.

“It doesn’t surprise me one bit that for more than 30 years, Christine Blasey Ford didn’t talk about the assault she remembers,” Davis added. Nor does it surprise her that Blasey doesn’t remember where it occurred or the specific day.

“Your memory snaps photos of the details that will haunt you forever, that will change your life and live under your skin. It blacks out other parts of the story that really don’t matter much,” Davis wrote.

Perhaps the “aging men” ready to question Blasey should think about the “courage it takes for a woman to say: Here is my memory. It has haunted me for decades ... you need to know about it now because of what is at stake in this country,” said Davis.

It’s not the first time Davis has challenged Trump’s positions. She wrote in the Post in June that her father would have condemned Trump.

“He would plead with Americans to recognize that the caustic, destructive language emanating from our current president is sullying the dream that America once was,” she wrote.

Mod: Trumpy may have blown it.

Susan Collins 'appalled' by Trump's tweet about Christine Blasey Ford (CNN link): Sen. Susan Collins said she is "appalled" by a tweet from President Donald Trump disparaging the woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

The Maine Republican called the statement from the President "inappropriate and wrong." "I was appalled by the President's tweet," Collins said Friday, according to audio obtained by CNN of an event where she spoke with local reporters.

The senator, who is a crucial swing vote on Kavanaugh's nomination, was responding to a question on what she thought of a tweet from the President suggesting that Christine Blasey Ford should have come forward with her allegation against Kavanaugh earlier.

We know that allegations of sexual assault -- I'm not saying that's what happened in this case -- but we know that allegations of sexual assault are one of the most unreported crimes that exist, so I thought that the President's tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong," Collins said.

  1. In college I was mollested in an elevator by two black men. It was a Friday afternoon in May 1970 on the PCC campus. I can tell you which elevator. You remember those details. I don’t believe her story. She doesn’t remember whoop when...give me a break.

It’s people like you that make everything about race instead of what a person is doing.

  2. 6:01 How dare you minimize someone else's experience. Everyone remembers differently. You of all people should recognize that each one of us are unique and should be taken seriously.

  3. I believe that Dr. Ford is telling the truth. I think Kavanaugh knows she is telling the truth. I think Mark Judge also knows what the truth is. I think in addition to the FBI presenting corroborating evidence that supports Dr. Ford, I think Kavanaugh fears what else the FBI is going to find. I think there are stories out there concerning Kavanaugh's behavior that may reveal things that are so far unknown to the public.

  5. 6:01, I don't believe your story. I was sexually molested and after telling my parents and they didn't want to believe me I never mentioned it again. Not so funny when it's a family acquaintance. Were you dressed proactive, short dress, wearing perfume? Did you secretly invite that behavior. Did you report it, why not? As a victim you had a responsibility to report it but I'm guessing you didn't and it's people like you that let it continue to happen. By the way I was 12 how old were you, did you enjoy it is that why you never reported it. Very disgusting to read this kind of crap and I think people like you are feeding the problem.

    2. I reported it to the campus police and gave a description. I drove around the campus for over an hour with the police. I find it amazing and amusing that you believe her story when she remembers no details and not me. As for you, I am truly sorry that your family did not protect you. I hope you protect your children like a mother lion.

  17. Kavanaugh ally did online searches for Christine Bailey Ford before she was revealed as accuser

A conservative lobbyist friend of Brett Kavanaugh’s searched for Dr. Christine Bailey Ford on LinkedIn before she was outed as the person who accused the Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault.

The Washington Post reported that on Sunday, Ford forwarded an email to an associate showing that Ethics and Public Policy Center president Ed Whalen had been looking at her LinkedIn profile.

According to the report, Ford sent the email about 90 minutes after the Post shared her name with the White House — but before the newspaper posted a story revealing her name on Monday.

In a statement, the White House claimed that neither Kavanaugh nor anyone within the administration shared the accuser’s name with Whelan.

  26. I experienced the same sexual assault when attending high school, it was on the stair case, two black guys.
Didn't report it, recall all details, realized that they were a**holes.
Never let the assault change my outlook on men.
My first boyfriend was black. Race has nothing to do with how a person conducts themself.
Both Kavanaugh and Ford should be heard, behind close doors or in the public without anyone passing judgement.
Politics should not be a part of the hearing.

  29. Repressed memories were reasons why Mrs Ford sought a therapists counseling. I hope blogger 7:24am. will consider the same.
The more abuses are talked about, the less stigmas attached. Your parents should have believed you, I am also sorry that they did not.
Predators use that knowledge. Good thing that the stigma attached to shame and disbelief are changing, and memories are individuality unique to each individual.
It does not matter what someone wears, what perfume or aftershave.
No one secretly invites abuse, it is never the fault of the victim.
You said you were 12 and reported it, but that you were not believed. Maybe that is what gave you the false sense that no one cared, not true.
Your posting suggests that you may be acting out in anger from past unresolved hurts or uncried tears, please speak up again to someone close to you or a therapist that may guide you through your pain.
Memories may be blurred but details remain.
A hearing between Kavanaugh and Ford should be between both and the panel of Senators due to the nature and stakes involved.

  32. It is PTSD, shame, guilt (blaming themselves), fear of retaliation, or harm to come to their families. Dr. Ford will re-experience all of these when she testifies in the senate. Pairs of senile old white thrash men will sit and intimidate her, issue implicit and subversive questions or remarks to humiliate and harass her and her family. Why only men in the committee, why no women? This is how men denigrate women just like only men sitting in the panel on reproductive rights and abortion.
