Holy Misappropriation! Warner Bros. Shut Down Trump’s 2020 Video For Using The “Dark Knight Rises” Score

The Dark Knight?
Mod:  "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they call you racist." Holy misappropriation, it's Bat Trump!

Warner Bros. Shut Down Trump’s 2020 Video For Using The “Dark Knight Rises” Score (BuzzFeed News link): President Donald Trump on Tuesday posted a video on Twitter that appeared to be part of his 2020 reelection campaign. In less than three hours, it had already amassed over 1 million views, but by late Tuesday night, the video was no longer available.

BuzzFeed News has learned that Warner Bros. Pictures filed a copyright infringement complaint to have the video taken down because it uses part of the score from the studio's 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises.

In a statement Tuesday night, Warner Bros. confirmed it was taking action over the video. "The use of Warner Bros.’ score from The Dark Knight Rises in the campaign video was unauthorized," a spokesperson said. "We are working through the appropriate legal channels to have it removed.” By late Tuesday night, the video in Trump's tweet had been replaced by a message that it was no longer available "in response to a report by the copyright owner."

The roughly two-minute video juxtaposes brief shots of prominent Democrats — from Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to comedians Rosie O'Donnell and Amy Schumer — against images of Trump from his first two years in office, including his meetings with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and Brazil's far-right president Jair Bolsonaro. Dramatic text exclaims: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they call you racist." There is no dialogue — instead, a driving, dramatic score plays underneath everything, crescendoing just as Trump raises his fist into the air.

After Trump posted the video on Tuesday afternoon, people quickly began pointing out that the music is from Hans Zimmer's score for The Dark Knight Rises, specifically the track "Why Do We Fall."

Mod: A Huffington Post article from 2016 perhaps presciently pondered whether or not Trump actually believes he is Batman. Well, maybe he does.

OMG, Donald Trump Thinks He’s Batman (Huffington Post link): Why is the Batman franchise so successful? It tells a compelling story of individual heroism versus systemic and environmental evil. The story is told on a backdrop of American society that is bleak, dark and grim; ripe with corruption in law enforcement and general malaise. If you looked at any big, modern American city through a strictly cynical lens, you could see Gotham City.

The narrative then draws us into a story of Bruce Wayne, a super-wealthy...

“celebrity socialite...who averts suspicion by acting the part of a superficial playboy idly living off his family’s fortune, which was amassed through investment in real estate before the city became a bustling metropolis.” - Wikipedia’s Batman Entry

Bruce Wayne then transforms himself into the oft-misunderstood, frequently-scapegoated, and underappreciated-yet-ingenious superhero who is uniquely capable of undermining corruption and villains, saving Gotham City and its people from being unfairly victimized. While it’s true that Bruce Wayne is primarily driven by the murder of his parents in the mythic Batman universe, the rest of the parallels almost perfectly click into place: Donald Trump thinks he’s Batman. And he sees America as Gotham City.

“I alone can fix it.”

In his nomination acceptance speech in Cleveland, Trump told America he believed that he, alone, can fix the political system, but he also promised the country he would actually put an end to crime and violence.

Trump: “The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon — and I mean very soon come to an end.”

This is not so different from Batman’s promise: “I made a promise [...] that I would rid this city of the evil.”

In terms of campaign promises, Trump’s assurance that he will not only fix the political system single-handedly, but also bring crime and violence to an end in America, sounds much more like a platform for a superhero in a mythic universe than a presidential candidate in the real world.

  5. Fantastic Four, President Trump and his children.
Yes, Batman could easily be Donald J Trump who single handedly must rid the United States of evil; the Progressive Democrats.
That would be one movie worth it's weight in a ticket at the box office.
The untimely death and passing of the stunt actors, Progressives, and the main characters the Jokers, Nancy and Chuck would drive off into the sunset.
By golly, break out the swag bags because Hollywood finally has a box office smash worth keeping in theaters across this nation.

  12. The Government did spy or did counter intelligence or did unauthorized surveillance on President Trump during his 2016 campaign and AG Barr will be looking into it.
What ever you want to call it, all Americans should be concerned that government power is not abused.

    2. Any US agency charged with conducting counter-intelligence operations that didn’t spy on a campaign that had various now convicted criminals running it, that met with Russian agents in the candidate’s own building, and that had a candidate who routinely laundered money from Russian agents should be disbanded or absorbed by patriotic agencies that did spy on the campaign.

Let’s hope that Barr’s investigation shows counter-intelligence agents were in fact spying on the Trump campaign and show all the facts that caused them to do so.
