House Panel Approves Contempt for Barr After Trump Claims Privilege Over Full Mueller Report

Mod: Another day, another crisis in the Trump world. Ever get the feeling that Donald just somehow gets off on driving this country to the brink of disaster? That he craves the chaos? It is an almost daily occurrence.

House Panel Approves Contempt for Barr After Trump Claims Privilege Over Full Mueller Report (The New York Times link): The House Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to recommend that the House hold Attorney General William P. Barr in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over Robert S. Mueller III’s unredacted report, hours after President Trump asserted executive privilege to shield the full report and underlying evidence from Congress.

The committee’s 24-to-16 contempt vote, taken after hours of debate over the future of American democracy, was the first official House action to punish a government official in the standoff over the Mueller report. The Justice Department denounced the move as unnecessary and intended to stoke a fight.

After the vote, the Judiciary Committee chairman, Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York, swatted away questions about possible impeachment, but added, “We are now in a constitutional crisis.”

The contempt vote raised the stakes in the battle over evidence and witnesses as Democrats investigate Mr. Trump over behavior detailed by Mr. Mueller, the special counsel, in his report into Russian election interference and possible obstruction of justice. By the day’s end, it seemed all but inevitable that the competing claims would have to be settled in the nation’s courts rather than on Capitol Hill.

“Our fight is not just about the Mueller report — although we must have access to the Mueller report,” Mr. Nadler said during a debate. “Our fight is about defending the rights of Congress, as an independent branch, to hold the president, any president, accountable.”

  1. Lol, the pay back community of Democrats paid off from the Clinton Foundation continues to be the story.
Now that Eric Holder is not alone in his contempt charge, the Clintons are going after Bills historical title of impeachment as a seated President.
Meanwhile the United States population of voters are getting along in their lives very nicely due to President Trumps leadership.
If the turn out for the Presidents rallying in Florida's panhandler last night is any indication of the 2020 election turnout, than four more years will be here before we know. MAGA.

  2. Trump does NOT claim privilege over just the report but the whole investigation and supporting materials.
What this means is that Trump is attempting to cut Congress out of its Constutunial duty to oversee the administration.

  3. Donald Trump's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Trump can tolerate and even revels in all manner of criticism.

But one thing he cannot stand is to be laughed at or mocked as a nothing, especially when it comes to his financial worth, which he sees as the only real proof of his manhood.

Today, he's being laughed at and mocked up one side and down the other after it was revealed to the world that the Little Emperor not only has no clothes, he's also a financial eunuch.

This one's gonna leave a mark.

    1. If Trump were worth anything, American banks would still lend to him even though he's a lifelong deadbeat. The banks would simply require the loans be secured against unencumbered collateral.

Sounds like he doesn't have any unencumbered collateral that the banks will accept.

No doubt Russian oligarchs structure their loans a bit differently....

  7. Giant cache of guns found in Holmby Hills mansion that was reportedly purchased by 60 something year old grandchild of J Paul Getty. Questions raised about whether her son had all the guns and was manufacturing guns there.

I have different questions, such as for how many generations do the progeny of great wealth get to do nothing and yet be able to buy Holmby Hills mansions, all the while getting massive tax breaks from GOP administrations, and contributing nothing through actual work? Does it end with great grandchildren or great great, or maybe even great great great grandchildren? Does it ever end?

Our system is set up in such a way that our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren with serve and be ruled by the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, most not yet born, of yesterday's and today's billionaires.

Is that what we want, or do we want a more fair tax system that evens the playing field, provides fair opportunities, and rewards those who actually work?

  8. The Crowd Started Leaving Halfway Through Trump's Florida Rally

    https://www.politicususa.com/2019/05/09/the-crowd-started-leaving-halfway-through-trumps-florida-rally.html?fbclid=IwAR2zYlIURlVPGeA1qgBYv9XAGV495fS92XdZ3EfUX8OlxAojkqgzMY3gViM

The president cycled through a familiar list of rally topics, like a border wall with Mexico and the support of Democrats for late-term abortions. But it was a discursive performance, even by Mr. Trump’s standards, and the mood was notably less electric than at some of his other rallies. The crowd began straggling out during the latter half of the speech, to the sound of helicopter engines being warmed up in a nearby field.

Mr. Trump twice complained about the stage — where he stood under a giant banner that read “Make America Great Again” — saying that the floor was so slippery that he wondered if it had been set up by the Democrats.

Even his own supporters are bored with Trump

  16. Vote No on Arcadia Measure A !!!
Let the city go bankrupt so all the CalPERS contracts can be thrown out and put in realistic ones that don’t mandate huge fixed returns.
Wake up Arcadians !!! Don’t fall for the hype and scare tactics.

  17. As to the Arcadia posting; this increased CalPERS & CalSTRS drain on each California cities treasury has risen to a crises level, CalPERS & CalSTRS has to be taken over and revamped from the top down. These retirement systems are just a fumbling & stumbling manifestations of corruption and greed, monies taken in are only covering up titanic sized holes generated by past board members and the new one earn a $1.2 million dollars a year salaries. Padding the system and retirement salaries have gone over the edge of whats considered sanity. https://calpensions.com/2019/02/11/calpers-sued-to-identify-retirees-with-disability/
