Steve Bannon: Trump will lose supporters when they discover he's just another non-billionaire scumbag

Mod: So much news, so little time. Here's some of the latest, hot off the Tattler computer screen.

Bannon: Trump will lose supporters when they discover he's just another non-billionaire scumbag (DailyKos.com link): Steve Bannon took a break from turning into compost for long enough to speak with Michael Wolff for Wolff’s latest book, Siege: Trump Under Fire. And Bannon had a lot of salty things to say about his ex-boss.

The Guardian secured an advance copy of the book, scheduled to be released June 4, and highlighted Bannon’s part in it. The upshot? Trump is a fake billionaire and a crook.

The former White House adviser Steve Bannon has described the Trump Organization as a criminal entity and predicted that investigations into the president’s finances will lead to his political downfall, when he is revealed to be “not the billionaire he said he was, just another scumbag”. So what’s the over/under on “Sloppy Steve” tweets in the next month? I think Vegas has it pegged at 600.

Assessing the president’s exposure to various investigations, many seeded by the special counsel Robert Mueller during his investigation of Russian election interference, Wolff writes: “Trump was vulnerable because for 40 years he had run what increasingly seemed to resemble a semi-criminal enterprise.”

He then quotes Bannon as saying: “I think we can drop the ‘semi’ part.”

Trump: 'I had nothing to do with Russia helping me get elected' (The Hill link): President Trump said early Thursday that he "had nothing to do with Russia helping me get elected" while slamming special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation in a series of tweets. “After spending $40,000,000 over two dark years, with unlimited access, people, resources and cooperation, highly conflicted Robert Mueller would have brought charges, if he had ANYTHING, but there were no charges to bring!” he said in his first tweet of the morning.

"Russia has disappeared because I had nothing to do with Russia helping me to get elected. It was a crime that didn’t exist," he said in a subsequent tweet.

"So now the Dems and their partner, the Fake News Media, say he fought back against this phony crime that didn’t exist, this horrendous false accusation, and he shouldn’t fight back, he should just sit back and take it," he added. "Could this be Obstruction? No, Mueller didn’t find Obstruction either."

Trump’s tweet appeared to be his first acknowledgement of the U.S. intelligence community's conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election in order to help his campaign.

Schiff: 'There’s been an epidemic of cowardice in the GOP' (Politico link): Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, attacked Republicans’ moral character on Thursday while continuing to temper Democrats’ calls for impeaching President Donald Trump until such proceedings are clearly “the right thing for the country.” The California Democrat told Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer in a question-and-answer session that GOP lawmakers had come up to him privately to “express their deep concerns and worries” about the Trump administration and offer bits of encouragement as Schiff’s committee forges ahead with its investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“But I’m, frankly, exhausted by the private misgivings,” Schiff said. “People need to speak out.”

The lawmaker said he respected Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, who became the first Republican lawmaker to accuse Trump of committing impeachable offenses with a series of tweets earlier this month.

Schiff also reminisced about the late Sen. John McCain’s frequent clashes with the president and lauded the Arizona Republican’s stands as acts of courage. “I think what we knew, implicitly, was that courage is contagious,” he said. “But what we didn’t realize is that cowardice is also contagious. I think there’s been an epidemic of cowardice in the GOP. This president doesn’t stand for anything that the Republican Party said it stood for.”

  1. The Mueller Report is like the Bible. Republicans have never read it, but still pretend to know what it says.

  2. It's a "dirty, filthy, disgusting" word? Trump is now attempting to brand the word "impeachment". He wants to brand the people that use that word, especially when referring to him.

It is they that are "dirty, filthy, and disgusting".

We had never heard him describe impeachment in such terms before? He had always said that he couldn't be impeached because he was doing such a great job. But now, that seems to have changed?

He is attempting to discredit and preempt any moves toward impeachment. It's just a matter of time. He cannot cover up his crimes forever.

    1. OK so drop the term Impeachment and call it a "Trump Criminal Investigation." Is that better?

  3. Harvard Law Prof Calls Sen. Mitch McConnell a 'Flagrant Dickhead'

Carl M. Loeb University Professor and Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard Laurence Tribe was evidently not pleased to see Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) promise this week to fill a Supreme Court vacancy in 2020, if that opportunity were to present itself.

McConnell never allowed former President Barack Obama‘s Supreme Court nominee D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals chief judge Merrick Garland to get a hearing in 2016, citing the closeness to the election. In response to his latest remarks, Democratic opponents promptly called out McConnell for “hypocrisy” and accused him “stealing” a Supreme Court seat.

Prof. Tribe’s reaction to the McConnell news went a little further than mere accusations of hypocrisy and Supreme Court theft. He said “McTurtle’s” middle, first and last names are “hypocrisy.”

“What a flagrant dickhead!” he added.

  5. The feds now own a condo in Trump Tower, thanks to Paul Manafort

The federal government now owns condo 43G in Trump Tower because of the Mueller investigation, a judge certified Thursday.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson's order was the final move seizing the apartment from former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his wife Kathleen after he admitted to illegal foreign lobbying and money laundering and was convicted by a jury of fraud and other financial crimes during the Mueller probe.

Manafort bought the 1,500-square foot, 2-bed, 2.5-bath Fifth Avenue condo more than a decade ago for $3.675 million through a shell company that hid his riches from US authorities. He used it as a home base for years when he traveled to New York and when he led the Trump campaign. His residence there was even part of Manafort's pitch to Trump to hire him in 2016, according to The New York Times.

  7. He couldn't beat Hillary in a flat out Presidential race. He may not have requested Russian assistance but one way or another it was offered and accepted by his administration. The part I feel is treason is the fact that the Trump administration accepted the Russians assistance, knowing what it was and how it was obtained. In order to use the Electoral to win the election. Then admitting worldwide that Russia helped him win. He should have been taken into custody on the spot after admitting he accepted foreign assistance to win the election. The obvious obstruction instances alone should be enough for impeachment. Admitting nationally that the elite do not and have not paid taxes because it is a game? Who in this country can openly admit that he and other elite do not pay taxes and makes a joke out it a d be arrested? President or not that has got to be illegal. The near countless lies and deliberate misleading misinformation he and his administration spew literally almost daily to the American people. The clear and obvious fact that Trump is biased, especially towards people of color. Anyone of these is unacceptable for a President, Senate, Congressman / woman, basically any political position. We used to be a country that other nations feared and respected. Now, we are the worlds biggest joke / reality TV thanks to Trump. A complete disgrace and he shames this country with blatant disregard for everything this country is supposed to stand for.

    Barr vs. Barr

May 1 to Congress: “We accepted the Special Counsel’s legal framework for purposes of our analysis...in reaching our conclusion”

May 31 to CBS: “We didn’t agree with …a lot of the legal analysis in the Report…So we applied what we thought was the right law.”

  12. Carmakers See $18 Billion Wiped Out by Trump's Mexico Threat

The automotive industry is bearing the brunt of trade-war crossfire again as U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to slap tariffs of as much as 25% on goods from Mexico, a key production hub for carmakers from Mazda Motor Corp. to General Motors Co.

Mexico is the largest source of U.S. vehicle and auto-parts imports, meaning tariffs would increase costs for virtually every major manufacturer. In late night tweets Thursday, Trump warned tariffs would start at 5% on June 10 and increase to 25% on Oct. 1 unless Mexico stops immigrants from entering the U.S. illegally.

A dozen of the world’s largest automakers -- including Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG -- lost about $18 billion in market value by the start of regular U.S. trading Friday. The Bloomberg World Auto Manufacturers Index slumped as much as 2.2% to the lowest intraday since July 2016.

“Tariffs will mean higher price tags on cars for sales in U.S. and that will hit sales,” said Seiichi Miura, an analyst at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley. A 25% tariff would be worth $86.6 billion annually, which “could cripple the industry and cause major uncertainty,” Emmanuel Rosner, an auto analyst for Deutsche Bank, wrote in a report Friday.

  13. A supporter of President Donald Trump admitted this week she was “surprised” to learn that special counsel Robert Mueller’s report did not exonerate the president.

In an interview with NBC News, Michigan Trump voter Cathy Garnaat said that she went to Rep. Justin Amash’s (R-MI) town hall this week to challenge his view that Trump should be impeached — and she got caught off guard when he directly quoted from the Mueller report to justify his views.

“I was surprised to hear there was anything negative in the Mueller report at all about President Trump,” she admitted. “I hadn’t heard that before.”

Garnaat went on to explain that none of the news shows she watches or listens to have ever gone into depth about the contents of the Mueller report.
