Trump blames Obama for not warning him about Michael Flynn. Which Obama did.

Mod: As you know, in the dark netherworld of Tea Nuttery everything (and I do mean everything) that has gone wrong during the Trump administration is blamed on the previous president. You'd wonder why anyone would take any of it seriously. But apparently it isn't just Donald's wing nut supporters that engage in these absurd exercises in babyish blame diversion. It goes all the way to the top. Which, of course, is all Obama's fault.

Trump blames Obama for not warning him about Michael Flynn. Which Obama did. (Vox link): President Donald Trump wants you to believe that he had no way of knowing about former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s shady dealings with Russia before he made him his first national security adviser. In reality, the president is trying to rewrite history. On Friday, Trump tweeted his lament that nobody warned him about Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general who was dismissed from his job as director of national intelligence by then-President Barack Obama in 2014. After his dismissal, Flynn wasted little time cozying up to the Kremlin, and then spent 2016 as one of Trump’s key campaign surrogates.

“It now seems the General Flynn was under investigation long before was common knowledge,” Trump tweeted. “It would have been impossible for me to know this but, if that was the case, and with me being one of two people who would become president, why was I not told so that I could make a change?” But news reports indicate otherwise. CNN, citing former Obama administration officials, reported on May 17, 2017, that during a White House meeting days after Trump’s election, Obama told him that “given the importance of the [national security adviser] job, the president through there were better people for it, and that Flynn wasn’t up for the job.” But Trump proceeded with hiring Flynn anyway.

Former New Jersey governor and longtime Trump confidant Chris Christie has also said he directly advised Trump against hiring Flynn. “If I were president-elect of the United States, I wouldn’t let General Flynn into the White House, let alone give him a job,” Christie said in 2017.

Flynn soon illustrated why Obama and Christie had concerns about him. During the presidential transition period, he had phone calls with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in which he advised Kislyak not to respond to new sanctions the Obama administration placed on Russia for interfering (on Trump’s behalf) in the just-completed presidential election. Not only did Flynn undercut Obama’s foreign policy, but he then lied about it, telling FBI investigators during an interview conducted days after Trump’s inauguration that he and Kislyak did not in fact discuss sanctions.

Flynn’s lies to the FBI prompted officials to warn Trump once again about Flynn. On January 26, 2017, then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates personally informed the White House that Flynn lied to the FBI about his calls with Kislyak, and therefore was at risk of being blackmailed by Russia. But instead of immediately taking action against Flynn, the Trump administration fired Yates three days later, after she refused to implement Trump’s executive order barring people from a number of Muslim-majority countries from traveling to the United States.

Flynn was finally fired on February 13, after it emerged that he had also misled Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of his phone calls with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition period. He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in December 2017, agreed to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller, and is still awaiting sentencing.

Trump, however, has repeatedly tried to blame the whole Flynn debacle on Obama.

  6. Nah, OBAMA just forgot to mention that General Flynn was under surveillance from the FBIs section 302.
President Trump was informed by President Obama that the General openly disagreed with his policies, and that he was trying to trip him up but instead fired him.
James Comeys name comes into play throughout this transition timings of President Trump deciding on his transition teams to serve under him.
Not at any time did President Obama pull General Flynns top secret clearance status; the plot thickens on just who is involved with "Russian Interference".
America will now leave this part of the investigation up to AG Barr to uncover.

    1. So in your opinion Trump bears no responsibility for hiring a known traitor as his National Security Advisor? Even though he was warned by multiple sources from both parties?

  8. If, infact, trump YET AGAIN wants to blame someone else for his own foul-up, this time it would be, should be on his own transition team. It was public knowledge that President Obama had, point of fact, fired Flynn. It was up to the transition team to investigate the why's and wherefore's more so than the outgoing admins responsibility!

  9. CNN: Now we know why Donald Trump was SO focused on Michael Flynn

There must be so much more going on than we've been guessing at...

Will McConnell and Barr be able to contain the whole mess ?

At nearly every turn of the probe into Russian interference into the 2016 election, President Donald Trump was working to make sure Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, knew that the White House was on his side -- and that the President himself thought Flynn was a good guy.

Now we seem to know why.

Trump was worried -- and it turns out, rightly -- that Flynn knew things that would be problematic for the President as it related to Russia. And that if Flynn cooperated with special counsel Robert Mueller's probe -- as he eventually did -- it would have negative consequences for the administration. Court records released Thursday night revealed previously unknown details of Flynn's cooperation. Here's the key bit from the story:

  10. Why 2020 Will Be Another Massive Blue Wave, and a GOP Bloodbath

Democrats won the 2018 midterm elections by 10 million votes, the largest margin in history.

And it was mostly because of women voters turning out to send a message to the GOP. According to Pew, nearly 60% of women voted for Democrats and just 40% voted for Republicans. (https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/11/08/the-2018-midterm-vote-divisions-by-race-gender-education/)

Now, thanks to the anti-women actions being taken by Republicans at all levels of government, women are more angry than ever.

With new state laws making abortion illegal, the GOP has further awakened and angered the sleeping giant known as the female electorate. (53% of all votes cast are cast by women.)

This means that 2020 will probably be a Blue Tsunami unlike anything we've ever seen.

It will be helped by the ongoing hearings and investigations in the House which will let the American public know that Trump is indeed both a traitor and a criminal.

The best thing that could happen for Democrats is for Republicans in various states to continue to pass stupid anti-women laws. They'll all be thrown out in court anyway, but in the meantime they will serve the great purpose of activating and motivating tens of millions of women voters.

Maybe 2020 will be the year that a woman is elected as president after all.

  14. Since the GOP and especially McConnell have given all their power and authority to Trump, I have a question. Did Trump cut off their balls or did they do it themselves? I used to think they had respect for themselves but they no longer have any power, they are pawns. Do not tell me they are just getting what they want, it is bigger than that. They have made themselves irrelevant.

  18. Alex Jones can't win anything these days.

Judge rules Pepe the Frog copyright lawsuit against InfoWars will go to trial

A federal judge in California on Thursday ruled that a copyright infringement lawsuit filed against InfoWars by the creator of the "Pepe the Frog" character will go to trial.

Matt Furie, the creator of the popular frog, which has largely been coopted online by conservatives, sued InfoWars for copyright infringement over a poster it sold depicting Pepe the Frog with right-wing figures including President Trump, activist Milo Yiannopoulos and conspiracy theorist and InfoWars founder Alex Jones.

District Judge Michael Fitzgerald, who is overseeing the case in federal court in California, ruled in favor of Furie on several counts. But he said the issue of comments made by Furie on his ownership of Pepe the Frog is disputed enough to advance it to trial.

InfoWars had alleged that Furie’s copyright of the character was invalid because it may have been based off another frog from an Argentinian cartoon called “El Sapo Pepe.” Furie said he had never heard of the Argentine cartoon before, and the judge ruled against InfoWars’ claim that Furie having access to the internet was enough to suggest that he could have seen the other character.

  22. Flynn contacted GOP Mueller critic while cooperating with special counsel

While he was cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn contacted at least one member of Congress who was publicly criticizing the special counsel probe, according to messages obtained by CNN.

Flynn sent Twitter direct messages to Rep. Matt Gaetz, encouraging the Florida Republican to "keep the pressure on." It's not clear if Flynn sent additional messages to other lawmakers.

"You stay on top of what you're doing. Your leadership is so vital for our country now. Keep the pressure on," Flynn wrote in an April 2018 message to Gaetz, which was obtained by CNN.

On the evening Flynn sent the message to Gaetz, the lawmaker had appeared on Fox Business' "Lou Dobbs Tonight," where he criticized the Mueller investigation.
