Bloomberg’s next move to drive Trump nuts is a huge ad campaign attacking president’s business failures

Mod: They must be long ads. This list is just so long.

Bloomberg’s next move to drive Trump nuts is a huge ad campaign attacking president’s business failures (Raw Story link): Axios reported Sunday evening that former Mayor Michael Bloomberg intends to employ a similar campaign strategy as Hillary Clinton: attack Trump on his business failures.

In 2016, Clinton called out Trump’s tendency toward bankruptcy, highlighting every opportunity Trump had to increase his father’s money for a higher profit. But investment after another failed, as Trump was forced to file for bankruptcy six times for five different companies. It’s information Americans should be familiar with, so the question remains, how will Bloomberg’s attacks be any different?

“He is a real estate promoter as opposed to a businessman,” Bloomberg told Axios. “And they have very different ways of going about things.”

“A promoter does one transaction and is never going to see that customer ever again. In his case, he sells a building to you, and chances are he’ll never have you as a customer again. So he can be much more aggressive in terms of trying to get the best deal for himself,” Bloomberg continued.

“So the business world is much more complex, and you don’t behave that way,” Bloomberg said of Trump’s negotiating style. “And I think that explains a lot of … his demeanor here versus other presidents or what I would do. … That’s the way I’ve always thought about it. Because you look at him and you say, ‘Why does he do this?’ That’s what my conclusion is.”

Bloomberg, who is among the top 10 richest people in the United States. Trump, by contrast, rates 275th wealthiest person in the United States, if his wealth numbers are accurate.

Thus far, Bloomberg’s challenges to Trump has prompted Twitter meltdowns, rally rants and name-calling in interviews. If Bloomberg manages to take Trump down, mentally and emotionally, with ads targeting the president’s failed businesses and inability to make the “deals” he promised, it could prompt the next level of a knockdown drag-out fight. While the two New Yorkers are battling it out, the Democratic primary will play out in early primary and caucus states.

Bloomberg’s strategy has worked so far. “Bloomberg has been spending hundreds of millions of his own money to drive the president insane,” wrote Vanity Fair last month when Bloomberg’s ads began to surface. They listed off the weekend of tweets where Trump ranted about “little Michael Bloomberg.” This new round of ads could prompt a whole new war between the two campaigns. If all Trump has are insults about Bloomberg’s height, and ignores the issues, it may not work out well for the president.

  5. Just like a Dem! Nothing says vote for me more than Mayor Bloomberg spending his money on attacks of the President instead of attacking homelessness.
President Trump and Ben Carson are getting IT done, they put their values on helping out the meek, not using them as a political weapon.

    2. Since when have any of his family members visited a homeless outreach location, a soup kitchen or a
Meals on Wheels or a public home for low-income seniors ? I donate monthly to Meals on Wheels adjacent to St. Vincent Hospital. When I think of cuts to Meals on Wheels budget, already struggling at that location, it is
shocking to inflict more hurt on elderly poor. With Trumps new tax structure there is little chance that charitable
donations will be allowed a write off and my taxes went up. I pray that the Supreme Court will release Trump's
tax returns by summer. That may seriously damage people's will to re-elect.

  13. Trump just cut Social Security to pay for war. He is truly the Death President. Medicare cuts will be next.
CA. Senators and Rep Judy Chu did not approve of Social Security cuts. Many elderly in the Southern GOP states
depending on Medicare & Social Security will feel these cuts. Southern Republican Voters may now want to switch their November vote from Trump to Weld. He is an old-school Liberal Republican & former Governor who vowed two years ago to unseat Trump then. WELD has the most political funding of any alternative Republican.
Trump has already lost California electoral votes. But he could declare a national emergency if it appears he is losing the

  15. TPM: New Polls Suggest Dems Should Chill the F Out

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/new-polls-suggest-dems-should-chill-the-f-out

Two important new polls have come out this afternoon. They’re clarifying on a number of grounds. The first is that President Trump’s rise is the polls is at best overstated. Quinnipiac puts him at 43% approval, on the high side for that poll but the same as their previous three polls back into December. Monmouth has him at 44%. Their previous three polls had him at 43%. Just moments ago Yougov released a new batch of polls which put Trump at 41%, basically where he’s been since forever. (I put more stock in Quinnipiac and Monmouth but it’s another important data point.) Take this all together and they suggest Trump is in a relatively strong position based on where he’s been over the last three years. But there’s little evidence here of some game-changing move. Certainly nothing like the 49% Gallup found last week, which remains a distant outlier.

Quinnipiac has head to head match ups with Democrats. All the top candidates beat Trump by significant margins. Bloomberg 51-42, Sanders 51-43, Biden 50-43. There’s a lot of information that tells us that President Trump can definitely win reelection. But these numbers all point to an incumbent who has an uphill climb at best. And at least for now there’s little evidence suggesting a really different situation than we’ve had to date.

They also certainly suggest that if you think Sanders is a weak general election candidate that must be based on the predicted effects of attacks that have yet to happen. Because 51-43 is pretty solid.

The White House, in a moment of fragmentation and disappointment for Democrats, is trying to further demoralize the opposition. These numbers suggest that, technically speaking, Democrats should chill the f out.
