Gallup Poll: Fewer Americans self-identify as conservative ... U.S. Conservatism Down Since Start of 2020

Mod: Everything seems to be falling apart all at once for the Trumpers.

U.S. Conservatism Down Since Start of 2020 (Gallup link):  Americans' ideological bent has shifted in the first half of 2020 with fewer people self-identifying as politically conservative in May and June than at the start of the year. There has been a corresponding increase in self-described liberals while the percentage moderate has been fairly steady.

In January and February, an average of 40% of Americans identified as politically conservative. This was up from an average of 37% in 2019 and was tied for the highest rate of conservatism Gallup had recorded in the past six years. This coincided with President Donald Trump being acquitted of impeachment charges. It also came amidst strongly positive economic signals in the form of near-record-low unemployment and the Dow Jones Industrial Average reaching record highs.

Nevertheless, the percentage of Americans identifying as conservative reverted to an average 37% in March and April as the coronavirus pandemic emerged. It fell further to 34% in May and June as the pandemic has worn on, Trump's job approval rating has tumbled, and the racial justice movement emerged as a national focus following the death of George Floyd.

Meanwhile, the percentages identifying as liberal increased from an average of 22% in January/February to 26% in May/June.

  1. National Guard major will dispute top administration officials over decision to clear protesters near White House in July 2020. A top National Guard official will tell Congress that the widely criticized decision to forcefully clear protesters from a park outside the White House last month was made even though demonstrators were acting peacefully, a view at odds with public comments by top Trump administration officials.

  5. ‘Nobody likes me’: Trump bemoans the fact that Dr Fauci is more trusted than he is

At Tuesday’s White House press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump lamented the fact that the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is more respected by the general public than he is.

“He’s got this high approval rating,” said Trump. “Why don’t I have a high approval rating?” He added that “Nobody likes me. It could only be my personality. I don’t know.”

  6. The California 48th district republican committee, can go suck an egg or the knob of that pedophile pervert Republican (djt). These half backed fools should be charged with murder for the 150,000 people so far who have died because of their racists leader (djt) and the damage to the U.S.A. economy. All Republicans in California should be thrown out of political office and others that they bought their way into. No matter what they say they all do more damage than good, the only good they do is for their own pocket books, like the mafia.

  12. Trump questions how Fauci has a high approval rating 'but nobody likes me'

President Trump on Tuesday questioned why Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious diseases expert, has a higher approval rating with the public than he does on his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

"It’s interesting, he’s got a very good approval rating and I like that. It’s good," Trump said during a press briefing at the White House. "Because remember, he’s working for this administration. He’s working with us. We could’ve gotten other people. We could’ve gotten somebody else. It didn't have to be Dr. Fauci. He's working with our administration. And for the most part, we've done pretty much what he and others... recommended."

"And he’s got this high approval rating, so why don’t I have a high approval rating… with respect to the virus?" Trump wondered aloud.

"So it sort of is curious," Trump said. "A man works for us, with us, very closely. Dr. facui and Dr. Birx, also highly thought of. And yet they're highly thought of, but nobody likes me. It can only be my personality. That’s all.".....................

  13. Most Americans support national protests over race, poll finds

The protests around racial justice, sparked by George Floyd's death at the hands of police officers in May, are resonating with most Americans.

About two-thirds of Americans support the protests about racial injustice that began after Floyd's death, according to a new Gallup poll released today.

More Americans (53%) also are more likely to say the protests "will help" public support for racial justice and equality rather than "hurt" (which 34% said).
