Can You Believe Anything Josh Moran Says Anymore?

Bob Matheson / Josh Moran
There was an important article that ran in the Pasadena Star News back when the Bob Matheson child pornography scandal first hit in late 2011. I thought it would be a good time to cite some it, especially now that this photo has emerged. Written by Brian Charles, who is a hell of a newspaper reporter, the article is titled "Porn convict has Sierra Madre political ties," and you can link to it here.

This is how Brian Charles broke the story down for us. It is a damning snapshot of what was once this town's political and social elite, while also exposing the fecklessness of the local government agency that we entrust with our City's care.

Porn convict has Sierra Madre political ties: Police announced Thursday that they have opened an investigation into a politically connected member of the Chamber of Commerce after he was convicted in Canada of possessing child porn. On Tuesday, Robert Matheson, 66, pleaded guilty in a Canadian court to possession and smuggling of child pornography. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

Sierra Madre police Capt. Larry Giannone said the department is not aware of any local children being victimized by Matheson. Although Matheson was arrested two months ago, Giannone said he only launched an investigation this week. "We were not informed about his arrest until the (Star-News) article came out," Giannone said.

As of Thursday, Sierra Madre police had not searched Matheson's home. "We will have to see how the investigation goes," Giannone said. "We are looking into him to see whether we have any cases to file here."

In October, Matheson's laptop was searched as he passed through airport security at Halifax Stanfield Airport. Authorities said they found 2,500 pictures of naked boys, some engaged in sex acts; 280 videos of boys, some of which also showed children engaged in sex acts.

In addition to the videos and pictures, Matheson's laptop contained lurid short stories, one of which detailed a sexual relationship between a pre-teen boy and a priest.

City officials said they had no idea if any of the underage youth in the photos or videos were from Sierra Madre or surrounding communities.

Matheson maintained ties to several local politicians, including former Mayor Joe Mosca. Besides signing nomination papers for Mosca in 2010, Matheson hosted a fundraiser for Mosca at Matheson's Liliano Drive home. Mosca moved to Great Britain earlier this year and was unavailable for comment.

As bad as all that was, we now get to the part of this article that is pretty much the purpose of today's post. I've highlighted it so everything is abundantly clear.

Other politicians Thursday sought to distance themselves from Matheson. Although he was supported by Matheson and attended several functions, including one at Matheson's home, Councilman Josh Moran said the longtime resident didn't stand out.

"I didn't know him at all," Moran said. "He was just another face in the crowd."

The picture we have posted here for you today tells an entirely different story. With his arm draped around Bob Matheson's shoulder and a look of pride on his face, there can be little doubt that when this photo was taken Josh believed he was in the presence of a valued political supporter, and friend.

Can you believe anything Josh Moran says anymore?

    1. I don't think we want to know they are probably awarded by MAMBLA.

  2. If Josh decides to run for reelection I will help finance a postcard with this photo and accompanying article to be sent out to every voter in Sierra Madre.

    1. From knowing him before the election, I never believed anything Josh has ever said.

Same doofus that was so adamant to unrail Measure V, he once advocated an "in your face" boycott of Sierra Madre businesses and then lied when he said he didn't.

    1. You don't think the arm around the shoulders, big happy grins, compatability leans and matching campaign buttons are a tell?

    2. No I dont ! I bet your best friends do not know much about what you have done in your life. I am in many pictures looking like that with people I supported or people that supported me.

    3. You have missed the point, Steve. Even though it is as big as your mouth. No one is saying Josh knew what the Filthy Kilt was doing in his special moments. The problem is that after everything came out Josh went public in a daily newspaper and said he never knew the guy. If he had told the truth and said something like "Gosh, were we wrong about that guy!" then nobody would be discussing this today. But instead he chose to tell a whopper of a lie.

    4. I dunno, 6:48. Did Crawford lie to a major LA newspaper and say that he didn't know you?

    5. Exactly right, 7:42. The problem is not that Josh didn't know about Matheson's perversions, but the fact that Josh denied knowing Matheson at all. Goes to character. So if Josh lacks integrity here, where else is he lying to us...perhaps his statement that the city is paying off the bonds every month?

    6. Agreed. That was always been the argument Josh and his friends used. It is a nonissue, though. They committed no crime, knew nothing of Matheson's activities, yet when it all came out they covered up anyway. These are not smart people.

    7. If Josh had nothing to hide, why did he lie?

    8. It goes to Josh's character (or lack thereof).

Voters should look at a candidate's history- it will usually show what one's character is like.

    11. Josh is a liar

He may not know Matheson as a friend, he certainly was seen with him multiple times at fundraisers and political shin digs.

all Josh had to say he was awre of the guy and had only interaction with him at social events but Josh as usual, took the sleezy route

  6. It is not a crime to be good friends with a convicted kiddie porn fan. Or to have one proudly endorse you and wear your campaign button.

On the other hand, chubby josh's shirt and tie combo is truly felonious.

  8. Can't really tell if Moron's arm is draped around M's shoulder in this picture. The question for me is, what the hell did SMPD do with their alleged "investigation" of this kiddy porn scumbag. I always found it interesting how Mosca left town so fast...interesting timing...

    1. Matheson was given a pass. Why and how this happened is a big unsolved Sierra Madre mystery.

    2. If you look at the picture closely you can see Josh's fingers peeking up over Bob's shoulder.

      Delete
    3. Sure you can. You can see the tips of Moran's fingers of his right hand just over Matheson's right shoulder. Draped is not exactly the term for this male touching. Moran's right elbow is bent downward and the right hand reaches up for the shoulder that is why you don't see Moran's right shoulder hunched upward.

Moran has his campaign button on, has just given one to his new supporter (where was the photo taken? look at the off-white paint background, some rental hall? LIghting is too good, no shadows!) but this supporter, in phony Scottish military kilt with fake metals doesn't put it on (would destroy the arrary of metals on his puffed up chest) and just holds it between his fingers to let the name show. You can just hear the photographer coaching all this as the photo is being taken.

      Puke!

  9. They are Moran buttons. You can see the word MORAN spelled out with a design icon in the O. Very green. His color scheme as was John Buchanan's and Rob Stockley's. It may have been Mosca's, too. I have the old Mosca invite for the big kick off party at Matheson's. Kept it because the street name is mispelled. Will find it in my e-files and send it to the moderator.

    1. Buchanan, Stockly Mosca and Moran talk green, vote develop.
One of the worst campaign lies in Sierra Madre's history was John Buchanan's second run campaign material - after voting for 100 trees to be cut down at Carter, he put a picture of a tree on his sign.

    2. According to Buchanan development is green. Trees are just things that get in the way of being green. Or something.

    3. Buchanan, the SoCal Edison lawyer did nothing for Sierra Madre except try to push an agenda that benefited his employer and his massive ego

guy gave me the creeps, not in a Matheson way but in a slimy lawyer big mouth kind of way

  10. I reread the Brian Charles article through the link above and was appalled at this short-sighted comment attributed to our now mayor, then common shallow-thinking council "woman" Nancy Walsh:

"Councilwoman Nancy Walsh said it wasn't up to the city political leaders to determine whether any of the city's youths had been in contact with Matheson."

...because she should have added "...but as a mother and grandmother I am disgusted, appalled, horrified, incensed, angered, nauseated, etc." But no, these are emotions of someone with depth and feelings and they would not be the expression of our mayor, Nancy Walsh.

    1. The buck was passed on to the Chief, who then supplied the reasons why nothing could be done. Our political leadership ran away from this like it was poison, and law enforcement didn't lift a finger

    2. It was certainly up to the city political leaders to express their will to the hired police officers that they must verify the safety and well-being of the children of the town who may have met the predator!
      Another outrage from Walsh.

    3. Nancy had other priorities. A new toilet at the Hart Park House took precedent.

Thank you 10:01 for pointing out who has the real creditability problems and thank you Tattler for showing us the facts. The problem as I see it is our local government is just the left arm of Sacramento pushing for density and taxes not pushing for us home owners who produce the most $$$$$ for government with our taxes.

    No More UUT Taxes.......... Period
